We've discussed things like ghosts & bigfoot, but I'm curious...  What do you think is more likely to exist?  Ghosts/poltergeists, aliens from other planets, creatures from other dimensions, bigfoot, ESP, fate, etc?  Do you think that every single little thing can be totally explained?  Without getting into a debate on religion or politics, I'd like to hear about your experiences (or just your reasoning) that shaped your opinions concerning the "outer edge".  Hey, even if you don't have a reason (or experience) and just believe or don't believe, chime in anyway.

This isn't intended to be a deadly serious or "deep" topic.  It's just fun for me to explore strange happenings.

After trouncing around in the woods, watching the skies & having a seance tonight, I'll get back to you on my thoughts.

Cool. i love this type of discussion, especially around this time of year.   >:D   The only paranormal expierience i've ever had is this one:

Long story short; many years ago, a girl i was deeply in love with died  unexpectedly...a few days after that i was home late, sitting on the edge of my bed with the headphones on, listening to some music. My cat was lying on the floor next to me. He awoke from a sound sleep and looked directly behind me...at around that same time  i felt a weight on the mattress, as if someone was sitting behind me...before i turned around i felt the proverbial "icy fingertips" run down my back. (i was shirtless)...i spun around, and there was no one there....

I have no idea if that was actually her "ghost", or if i was so distraught over her death i imagined the whole thing....

As far as what i believe in; I'm pretty much open-minded to anything. i DEFINITELY believe in life on other planets. To quote the great Charleton Heston from Planet Of The Apes: "there has to be something out there better than man...there HAS to be..."  ( or somesuch    :)   )...
"It's Alive...oh, It's Alive! It's Alive, It's Alive...IT'S ALIVE!!!"

I believe in ghosts and I have had a few experiences.  I have had the stereo turn on by itself when I wasn't home.  And I have had it turn itself up and I said , "turn it down please." and it did.  When I was younger my Mother asked me to pull the shades down in the living room because it was just to bright that day and she had a headache, and I did.  We went into the kitchen and came back and all the shades were back up!  Mom said she saw a ghost of a kid dressed in old style of clothing more then once and I saw him out of the corner of my eye once but when I looked back he was gone.  Then when we moved to Oklahoma, in the attic we had this clear looking slime appear on some boxes and other stuff in the attic.  We would look to see if it dripped off the ceiling but there would be nothing there!  We just took it as he was sad to see us leave and was letting us know.

I also believe in aliens just for the simply fact that our universe is so huge with no known beginning or end that I find it hard to believe there is no other forms of life out there.  There has to be planets out there that have the same or like conditions like we have here on Earth.  Or maybe life forms that has adapted to different ways of surviving hostle enviroments.  And as for Bigfoot and creatures like that I am not sure.  You would think we would have found them or remains of them.  But then every once in a while a new animal is found or thought was extinct show up!  So I am not for sure, but would not surprise me if we do find them.  I guess I would be more surprised that it took so long to find them.  Well that is my thoughts on the subject my friends!
Long live the UMA!

I've had several experiences, nothing I can easily catagorize. There certainly exists ghosts/spiritual energy/angels, whatever you choose to call them. Inspite of my love for fictional monsters, ghost stories, etc., I don't have a "Western" dualistic take on such things. Whatever they are, or aren't, I think they & the Universe are good & helpful.

I don't think a healthy skepticism equals being able to explain 'every single little thing'; there's no cut-and-dried about anything.
But I am a skeptic.
I think a lot of people confuse probability with possibility, and causation with correlation, when it comes to asking the right questions about any out-of-the-ordinary claim or concept.
There is very little about the 'paranormal' world that I would dismiss out of hand, and I keep a very open mind about a lot of these things. Cryptozoology, aliens, etc., are fascinating and fun.
But a lot of concepts, especially astrology and New Age healing, boil down to a matter of faith as surely as any religion. There's no way to test the claims; it is their religion. I'm not comfortable discussing my skepticism about something many people hold as a life-guiding truth.

But that said, I find the world and its wonders so awe-inspiring, always have. I claim no ultimate answer to the big things, and love niggling in the details of little things, and can bicker and argue and champion and delight with the best of 'em!

I've seen a ghost and experienced a few visits with dead relatives a few times. Nothing in the past 3 or 4 years I haven't seen anything lately but I do believe that theres things out there that we can't explain away with science.

I dont believe in Aliens or Alien Spacecraft, I believe people think they see something, but it could be a number of things, but
they automatically say it was an Alien craft.

Bigfoot/Yeti/Sasquatch/SkunkApe/etc, I believe they are all the same type of species known as Giaganto-Pithicus(however ya say it)

Ghost/Spirits/Entity/Poltergeist/Demons/etc, whatever you want to call them, yes they exist, I have seen strange unexplainable things.

About a dozen of us witnessed many times the "Blue Man", when we used to play Wargames.
We always just seen the upper torso of a solid blue man.

Once me and a couple of friends left a tape recorder, recording in my house, we then left and went to the lake.
Upon returning, we rewinded the tape and listened, but only heard static, we listened to the whole thing.
Finally, upset that nothing was caught, I got up to go and shut off the recorder, that's when we heard children laughing on it.
Dont know who it was, could never figure it out.

I seen the "White Lady" in my woods, when I was 13 years old, even had my Father search the woods with a flashlight, cause I swore

Dr.Teufel Geist

(cont.)

I saw her out there, she was glowing white, and wearing what looked like a southern belle type of dress.
Me and my friends always joked about the "blue man" being the "White lady"'s civil war lover. ;D

My two close friends swear up and down that something chased them thru the woods, they claim the sound was as big as a St.Bernard,
but they never saw anything.

A few days after my Grandma passed away, my Mom and Aunt were sitting on the couch, and above them a little girl dancing music box
began playing.

My Grandma used to tell me stories from her past, that happened to her, she believed in the Paranormal.
She told me once, that when ever she went into the kitchen early in the morning to fix Grandpa's breakfast, that the lantern she carried
in there would go out, she would step back in the other room to light it, and it come back on, this happened back and forth.
There was no draft at all, later when they moved out of the house, she learned the original owner of the house, hung himself in the
kitchen.

UFO's I'm kinda skeptical about, altho I do believe the Universe has to have more life than just on Earth.  With a countless number of Galaxies, life has to have began elsewhere as well.  Even if nothing more than mirobial or animal, I believe there has to be something.

Some of Doc's former threads have got me interrested in checking out Cryptzoology legends, a lot of these are fun.

I firmly believe in ghosts.  Between the ages of 4 tob 7 we lived in a house that wasn't right. We never saw anything straight on, but would sometimes see what looked like a little kid out of the corner of our eyes.  The back bedroom (my bedroom) felt weird at night, Mom stayed in it with me once when I was sick and she woke up several times feeling deeply depressed.  The next door heighbor told Mom the people who moved there after us had a dog who would not go into that one room. Never had to have a light on at night before or after that one place, but mom said I would not go to sleep without it on there.

Unknown Primate

Well, I didn't really go trouncing in the woods, watch the skies or have a seance tonight.  I painted/customized a monster figure instead.  Here are my current thoughts on:

Ghosts/spirits - I grew up in what I once thought to be a haunted house.  My older sisters experienced some strange events and to this day, believe in ghosts & poltergeist phenomena.  I, too, had many weird experiences and firmly believed in ghosts and even demons.  Nowadays, I'm not so sure.  Just because I'm not convinced that what I experienced was truly paranormal.  Still, I do not doubt my sisters.  At 61 & 57 years old, they are two of the most un-hysterical & rational people I've ever known.  So, just because I don't believe for sure that it's happened to me, I will not discount other people's experiences.  It makes me want to do my own investigations.  I figure it's the only way I'll know for sure (and heck, even then, I might not).

Aliens/other worlds - I don't believe every UFO is from outer space and I definitely think there are a lot of misidentifications.   But when I look up into the night sky, I'm thinking surely there's something else out there.  It just makes sense to me.  I watch the sky a lot (think, THE THING) and have seen some ufos I couldn't quite identify, but that didn't convince me they were otherworldly.  However, last summer, I saw something in a clear sky, about 1 in the afternoon, that totally baffled & amazed me.  It appeared to be a silver/white sphere that moved unlike anything I've ever seen.  I'm still impressed with it.

Bigfoot - There have been so many reports in the last couple of hundred years that it makes more sense to believe that there is possibly some species of ape-like creatures that have managed to stay (for the most part) hidden.  The only place they haven't been reported in, is Hawaii.  And the bottom line is, we know that animals exist!

I'll have to get into some of the other subjects later.  Keep it up.  This is fun & interesting.

Thanks alot for this thread "buddy"  chain_saw. I could type my fingers to oblivion on this subject.
I'll post a few things as I get in the mood.
Quick rundown.
Cryptozology  I believe to a certain extent. I think anything weird that exists are probably hybrids or mutations of a certain species. Then again new small species are being discovered all the time.
Aliens- Absolutely! If humans are the most intelligent species in the universe that is SCARY! I think THEY were here many centuries ago. There is a ton of evidence both very old and newer to verify that.
I also believe in different planes of existence. I am  one that tries to explain anything weird thru logic reason and science. Saying that, I believe that 95%+ of UFO sightings are misconceptions/identifications. Abductions probably 98% B.S.

Ghosts spirits and the like. I have had a TON of strange experiences as well as family and neighbors.

Here is one quick story that happened to my older sister. My father past on from cancer 10-2-83.
About a week later she mentioned to a friend that she wished she had thought to cut out my dad's obit from the paper. Her friend said she would look in her old stack getting ready for trash day and see if she could find it. So my sister is waiting for the bus after work on a very mild calm day. Suddenly the wind whips up and a few pages from a newspaper come out of nowhere and twirl around my sisters feet. She picks up a couple pages and looks at it. Yep,you guessed. My dad's obit was the first thing she saw. :o. Now you tell me what the odds of that are without some kind of spirit intervention.

Unknown Primate

Wow, Wicked Lester, that's crazy about the obit!  The "alternate planes of existance" has always been a fascinating subject for me.  I remember reading some older posts about your experiences with the "dark side".  I had a life changing experience back in 1985 that involved either demons or some other paranormal entities...  or...  I went crazy for several weeks!  Still not sure...

Yea you are right.Guess what? It sorta worked. :( In the mid to late 70s I was into some VERY dark $&!^. I was literally doing rituals to attempt to summon demons. Granted with my spiritual Pagan belief system I now look at it as inhailing dark energy but growing up and going to nun school back then it was looked at in a whole different perspective.
Ok that being said, for anyone that watches the "true haunting" shows on cable my feeling is that when a supposed spirit is manifesting in a home that it doesn't matter if it is a catholic priest or a pagan priestess that calls it out. It's all about positive energy overcoming negative energy in the house. It's a mix of spiritual intervention with at that time psychological make up. Pairing the two is SO important because "reality" has various levels.  :-\ I know I'm starting sound like one of "those" guys but you need to really look at the WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOLE scope of things and look at different possibilities instead of spoon fed "THIS IS TRUTH!!!
