Bloody-Disgusting reports that Universal Pictures is going to reboot Anne Rice's "The Vampire Chronicles" and is in talks with Robert Downey Jr. to play the vampire Lestat Du Lioncort!

Lestat was previously played by Tom Cruise in the 1994 adaptation of Rice's Interview with the Vampire, which co-starred Brad Pitt, Christian Slater and Kirsten Dunst. Stuart Townsend later played Lestat in the 2002 film Queen of the Damned, which co-starred Aaliyah and took elements from the author's "The Vampire Lestat" and "The Queen of the Damned."

The series of novels also includes "The Tale of the Body Thief," "Memnoch the Devil," "The Vampire Armand," "Pandora," "Merrick," "Blood and Gold," "Blackwood Farm" and "Blood Canticle."

Downey Jr. recently wrapped Iron Man 2 and has Sherlock Holmes arriving on Christmas Day.

hmmm......Downey is a little old to play Lestat. I liked TOwnsend's  version fo Lestat. the movie was kinda lame, but he captured lestat's character. as for Cruise....well, he actually did ok, but Brad pitt stole the movie as Louie.

A friend of mine called me and told me about this, my reply was, What! another Lestat movie! Why?!
Then he told me that Robert Downey Jr. was to play Lestat, and I said this is stupid.
I'm sorry, but downey as lestat, come on.
I like Iron Man, but vampire he is not, and I dont think we need another unless Stuart Townsend plays him.
As for Cruise and Pitt in the first film, Burn it at the stake!!, that movie sucked, and belongs in "Speaking of Bad movies"
"Queen of the Damned" had it's moments, and Aaliyah was hot.

I'm not a big fan of the Anne Rice novels/vampires in the first place so I am coming a bit biased.

That being said, Interview was good, Queen was forgettable save for Aaliyah of course. Otherwise, I'm with Doc on this one, why make another vampire Lestst movie?

What are you doing? your agreeing with me again.
How can we have this loathe/hate friendship, if you keep agreeing with what I say.

hollywood has run out of ideas and instead of looking to new ideas, they love to rehash the old proven stuff.  Anne Rice still has quite a following, but im not sure we need another Lestat.  THere are so many stories that havent been told, from pulps, from classics, from new authors. but it is easier to do the cookie cutter routine.

Why not?

This is like the Batman/Dark Knight comicbooks--er graphic novels--on film.

How many different Bruce Waynes have there been?
Each one decried as a total miscast/ complete idiot/too old/too young/too short. No matter who is cast, some will hate it. Some will love it, and unless it is a Troma direct to video release, theatres all over the place will be packed.  Given some of the cinematic manure that turns a profit these days, I am beginning to think the moviegoing public has lost its collective mind.
The studios will make money and Anne Rice will make money--unless some day they hire Drew Carey for the role.  And even that might make money.

I'd pay to see that. :D

It might be almost as good as Il silenzio dei prosciutti (Silence of the Hams) starring Dom Deluise as Dr Animal Cannibal Pizza. ::)
