Bloody Hair Hunks! In FMoF? Obscure question...

Did that subject line get your attention?  Ok, this will probably sound very weird, but here goes.  I remember seeing a small ad, that I thought was in an issue of Famous Monsters Of Filmland, probably in the late 60's?  Anyway, the ad was for a novelty item called "Bloody Hair Hunks".  I know, it sounds almost made up.  The ad intrigued me and frankly, creeped me out a bit.  I don't recall any graphics, but I can still vividly remember this ad.  Now, it's been a looooonng time ago and I'm not positive it was in FMoF.  Might'ave been in CoF or For Monsters Only or some other monster mag.  I don't have many vintage magazines or I'm sure I would be racking my brain going through them all to prove I'm not crazy or imagining the whole deal.

Does any of this ring a bell?  Anybody?  Somebody?

George Stover made and sold the "Bloody Hair Hunks". Probably through  his fanzine BLACK ORACLE, though he may have taken out ads in other mags.

I want to see a picture of this, either the ad or the actual item.

I'll look through the Black Oracles and a couple other places and see if I can find an ad.

No kidding, I want to see both. What a novel offering, 'bloody hair hunks'. Can't even imagine, unless it looks exactly as I'm imagining, in which case... yes I want to see both!

Mike, as usual, you totally amaze me!  I'm not crazy after all.  I hope you can find the ad.  That would complete my BLOODY HAIR HUNKS journey!  Well almost...  I guess the next step would be to find the actual product!  Thanks!

I'm thankful for that...  even though I'll probably dream about giant bloody hair hunks tonight.

Seems to me that Captain Company also offered rubber pieces of body (fingers, etc.) in tubes in very early FM's. But bloody hunks of hair? Ewwwwwwwwwwww................  :P

I remember that Stover did an article for Cinemagic Magazine, showing how to make Bloody Hair Hunks...with color photos, I think?  They were clippings from old wigs, with one end dipped in latex and allowed to dry, and the latex "skin" dipped in red food coloring.  I do recall thinking that the article seemed bizarre!
Beautiful moving, shifting colors!

Thanks for the tip! I hope that was the fanzine, 'cause I don't have any of the Starlog produced mags. If it is the SL, maybe somebody who has it will scan it?

Here's a BHH ad from BLACK ORACLE. 3 hunks in a bag with a header card.
