In respect to this thread and this board that I love, I will refrain from further comment as surely such talk will ignite heated discussions that have no place on this board.

Your restraint is appreciated.  We don't want to go down a path that will lead to arguing or possible hurt feelings.

The Drunken Severed Head

And your contributions to this thread are appreciated, BaronLatos, too. So far, this has been a good discussion. I hope someone else who saw it at Chiller will share an opinion of the film.

Thanks fellas,

For the record, I have no ill feelings towards anyone. It was a good discussion with different viewpoints which made it real.

Mitchellmania gave me tips on painting my model, so thanks man. Everything is good over here. I will still see this movie when it does come out.

I believe the screening in L.A. qualifies it for Oscar consideration, and I'd love to see it get a nom for Best Makeup!)

I was at the L.A. screening, and it played one night only.

I believe a film has to run a minimum of one week, though, to qualify for Academy consideration.

The Drunken Severed Head

I see. Thanks for the clarification, Perry!

Thank YOU, Raymond, and everyone, for your replies. I think it's somewhere between "an ambitious 'fan film'" and "a legit feature." (Raymond, your words remind me that I felt the same way about EQUINOX when I saw it with you at your house.)

Jscareshock--I gather from your post about what John McGar told you that this will go to dvd only, and not a limited run, as in the manner of an independent like THE LOST SKELETON OF CADAVRA. (I'm not counting the appearances in L.A. Ligonier, PA, and at Chiller as a "limited run.")

I will certainly buy a copy when it comes out, and would buy the poster, too!

WHen John and I talked about the project it was for a DVD release of the film, but I know he, and all of us, would like to see it in theaters everywhwere.

Now that this film has had it's (extremely limited) release in theaters...when can I buy a dvd.  I ain't gonna live forever, and I really want to see/own this movie. ;D

I didn't realize I offend anyone. I just feel today's mindset is not much better- we just hate in sneakier ways.

I too worry about the sensitivities which could be trampled by resurrecting a long dead (and deservedly so) stereotype. I see the thought process for including it when you consider that the film is supposed to fit neatly into the classic era, as if it had been there all along. But that doesn't make it a wise choice. And I believe it isn't a wise choice.

That being said, I will definitely see it because I'm certain there was no intent to be hurtful. I've learned to see films for what they are, and enjoy them for it. And I'll likely have to explain that some day to my African American foster child. Everything, handled with love, can be a positive learning experience.

Exactly. And, we can heed the lesson of past sins while paying homage to past greatness; it's just that sometimes they overlap without any intention of being hurtful, and we need to be vigilant not only about how we let it happen, but how we react (and not overreact) to the transition.

It's still about the monsters, and I will get this when it comes out on DVD, no problem. I hope there are more films like it in the future.
