In a crowded theater, in the dark, one or more people shooting back at him would have most likely increased the casualties.  He may have been killed.  But there is no way he could have been stopped before he started shooting people.
I am saying this as a former hunting safety instructor and witness to several firefights.  In no way am I being political.

In Other News:  Why doesn't everyone use Spell Check???

Jerri Peterson, from Atlanta in the US, carried the torch through Derby on 30 June after being nominated by the hotel chain she worked for.

Before coming to England, she decided to spend money on a tattoo to mark the occasion.
Only later did the 54-year-old realize it featured the mis-spelling "Oylmpic".

She booked a session with a "really good" tattoo artist in her home state of Georgia, and took a friend along for moral support.

Initially she was delighted with how it looked and it was only when she sent a photo of the tattoo to a friend that the spelling mistake was pointed out.

San Jose: 21 people treated for burns after firewalk at Tony Robbins appearance

SAN JOSE -- Amid inspirational talk, chanted mantras and shouts of victory at a late-night firewalking event attended by thousands Thursday came agonized shrieks from followers whose soles were scorched by the superheated coals, witnesses said.

At least 21 people were treated for burn injuries after taking part in the crowning event of the first day of a Tony Robbins function downtown, including at least three who went to the hospital, a San Jose fire captain said.

The people who suffered various second- and third-degree burn injuries were among more than 6,000 who attended the motivational speaker's event at the San Jose Convention Center called "Unleash the Power Within."

The amazing thing is--people paid anywhere from $995 to $2595 per ticket!

Best line of the day:
San Jose Fire Department Capt. Reggie Williams said "We discourage people from walking over hot coals."

Thank you, Captain Obvious.

Perhaps, however, the presence of other guns or the possibility of it might have discouraged it in the first place.

That's exactly what Fred Willard did with his pants at the porno theater, which he---interestingly enough---BOUGHT from Hot Topic.  :o

Ok, what did Fred Willard do? I didn't hear about this.

Willard, 72, was booked at the Hollywood police station on suspicion of committing a lewd act in public. Ro said Willard was released after midnight without posting bail.

By Thursday afternoon, Fred Willard had lost his job narrating "Market Warriors," which is produced by Boston public television station WGBH.

"Given the unfortunate news reported today, effective immediately Fred Willard no longer will be involved with the 'Market Warriors' series," said WGBH spokeswoman Jeanne Hopkins.

Mark Walberg, the host of "Antiques Roadshow," will re-narrate the four episodes that have already been produced. Hopkins said.

Okay... so WAIT.  Fred Willard commits a lewd act AT a porn movie theater and he loses his PBS gig---------and they give it to Marky Mark (who committed the SAME lewd act IN a movie ABOUT porn movies (Boogie Nights)....????????

Short version:  'AT'= BAD
                       'IN'= GOOD

Got it. :o

Yeah, I know! Who needs truth if its dull?

Gotta admit, though:  Every time I see Antiques Roadshow, I laugh.
Trying to imagine that square-looking host in Planet of the Apes or dressed as Marky-Mark ::)
