Also, as with the Sunday School teacher in California that raped and murdered an 8 year old little girl has plea bargained to avoid the death penalty.....WTF?  That is also a jacked up problem with our legal system.  Now, she will be convicted but our tax dollars will support this woman the rest of her life including medical expenses when she gets sick or old.  WTF?

You really think she will last a long time in the general population? Even convicts have a certain code. Child rapists/killers have a VERY hard time in prison,as it should be.  u6juu

In the UK sex offenders are kept in an isolated wing with their own 'rooms' (as they don't really resemble cells) for their own safety and spend their days eating sweets and playing video games. Upon release they are relocated to a new part of the country and supported on the welfare system for life. When they reoffend they get another year or so and the process begins again.

As so called "civilized" as we are supposed to be I believe we should take a good throwback lesson from our beloved Westerns and hang some people out in public.  This woman deserves to be hanged.  She took a child's innocent life so she could have one moment indulging in her sick twisted sexual perversions and will live out the rest of her days in prison rather than getting death.  Plus, our way of putting someone to death is far more humane than what most of these killers do to their victims.  A hanging is a terrible way to die and is what many deserve.  It sickens me that we pretend to be so civilized but over and over we prove that the guilty murderers have more rights than the victims.  Tragic

I'd like to hear what UMA members think about the BP oil spill screw up. I for one think they should be HEAVILY fined and pass the money to the people in the Gulf who will be needing it.  They shouldn't be drilling in deep water if they dont have the solution for this kind of  calamity. I dont think most people realize the effect this will have on our  economy.  Greedy, thoughtless corporations like BP need to be made a lesson of.  Instead the govenment sits on its hands and hopes for a Hail Mary.

We had a case years back in the town where I worked as a Police officer. It was a Sunday morning when we recieved a call to go to an address in our town and when we got there to just walk in cause no one was alife to answer th door.(This was before 911 where the callers name, etc shows up)
When we arrived at the address given we entered the property and found a women and 7 children stabbed to deaths. The women was in the kitchen and all the children were in their beds. While we were investagateing the phone rang.Myself being the ranking Sgt on the scene answered the phone and the caller was the same male who called the station. He told me to go to another address and that we would find more bodies. When we arrived at the 2nd address when found 5 more people all adults also stabbed to death! The phone also rang there and it was the same male caller and he gave us a third address. When we got there we found 4 more bodies all stabbed to death.
We would up catching this guy later in the afternoon and he turned out to be the Husband and Father of the first address that he called in.The 2nd address was his parents home and the 3rd was the home of his wife's parents. We found the murder weapon a bowie knife in a trash can out side the k-mart where in made the calls from a telephone booth.
This guy turned out to be a very respected Doctor in our town and said he wanted to find out how it felt to take lifes instead of saving them!
He was given the death penalty but is still sitting on death row because all the Liberals in Penna don't carry any of the death sentences out!

Here's hoping someone in the prison where this scum resides decides to meet out justice on his own. Because there's precious little in the System.

I've read books that support the theory that serial killers have sustained head injuries, that in some way predispose them to commit such heinous acts....the diagnostic manual used in mental health, the DSM-IV-TR, isn't sophisticated enough to diagnose serial criminals....I would suspect that many are true psychopaths - and a psychopath can't be "cured"....you might think of it this way - suppose you bake a cake, and accidentally dump a cup of salt into the batter, but decide to bake the cake anyway...so you bake it, frosten it, decorate it, and eat a piece, which tastes, oddly enough, like salt.  And you think if there was only some way to take the sale out of the cake, it's be fine.  But you can't.

Yeah.  I'm a firm believer in that you cannot fix certain things/ people.  You know, if you watch enough wildlife shows, you'll hear over and again how wonderful certain animal mothers are---as if man could somehow take a lesson in parenting... I always wondered why there isn't the same push to have humans emulate how these same animals secure their communities and families, however...

If a lion or a chimp does something like attack young within the group or forces itself sexually on other members uninvited, the rest of the pride/ troop chases that individual out of the group.  If that individual returns, it is killed.  Period.  When you act uncivilized, IMO, you revoke your right to be treated civilly.

I support 'putting down' animals and people under these condditions.  And 'who' has the right to determine such things, you ask?  The PERPETRATOR has chosen his/ her fate themselves by their own actions.  JMO.

Sean,

Well, I think some things can be fixed, or at least modulated....but the offender has to WANT to make some changes.  All to often, unfortunately, offenders are happy with the way things are, and therapy is a waste of time.  I'd argue the point for some behaviors, there is just no cure or therapy that is going to make any difference.  For example, for some offenders who are pedophiles, therapy can be useful to reduce their urges - maybe some social skills training, maybe refraining from drug or alcohol use (which lowers inhibitions, etc).  That being said, serial crimes cannot be cured.....offenders are permanently damaged, for whatever reason, and simply beyond out present knowledge to fix....these offenders need to be quarantined from the rest of us....how many times do you let a rabid dog bite you?

I'm sorry Sean, but I have no compassion for pediphiles or hope for they're therapy. So many times these people are repeat offenders. I tend more towards a Barney Fife solution..Nip it in the bud...surgically. These offenders are like animals getting their first taste of blood, they crave more. i can't believe these parasites can be rehabilitated, and I am speaking as a victim.

A lifelong friend of mine was recently convicted of sexually assaulting a nine year old girl after climbing through her bedroom window. Although he was always a little strange, and had never had a girlfriend it came as a great shock to most who knew him. It has had a devastating effect on his family (his elderly grandfather has been attacked on two occasions just for being related to him and his brother who worked at the same factory has been hounded from his job. His parents are moving home after being shunned by their neighbours and have had their windows smashed and their car vandalised) My 'friend' in question on the other hand is having a great time in prison. I know this as he has wrote to me on three occasions (I have never replied to any of his letters) and in each letter he describes how easy prison is, and at no point in any of the letters does he show any remorse for the pain he has caused to his victim and all his family and friends he has let down. The overriding theme to all his letters is "Me, Me, Me."
I have thrown the letters away but they gave a real insight into the selfish nature and arrogance of these offenders. The ones who feel genuine remorse more often that not commit suicide. The rest carry on living in their own perverted, nihilistic worlds.

Agreed.........there is absolutely no clinical data which supports the supposition that pedophiles can be rehabilitated. Creepy, I'm so sorry you were victimized this way my friend. I completely agree with your surgical solution, but the political correctness of our age puts the disease of the offender over the pain of the victims every time.

In America, he'd likely not be reveling quite so much. Our inmates, no matter how depraved, will generally circle a pedophile like sharks in bloody water until they can get to him in a vulnerable moment.

Don't know if ya'll caught wind of this, but a couple of weeks ago, CBS News reported in the late news about a Pedophile Circle, I believe somewhere in SoCal, which was infiltrated by a reporter, revealling lude discussions and planned meetings in public areas for the purposes of watching youngsters. Moreso now, as a relatively new Father, I cannot begin to tell you how furious and sick at the same time I was over the existence of such a thing.
