When you're trying to be Bo Diddley (or the stones) but end up accidentally doing punk rock 10 years too early...

Great song by a great band. I also loved Bowie's version on "Pin-ups".

MC5 - "Kick Out the Jams"
The beginning of punk, as we know/knew it (or was it "I Wanna be Your Dog" by the Stooges?). I got my "Alexa" thing to play this and was pissed that the intro was excluded. Luckily, I have the vinyl. Thank you Amoeba Records (f*** you, Alexa).

This was after Johnny Rotten left the band and Sid Vicious took over at lead vocals while former member Glen Matlock rejoined the band on bass guitar.

Rumor is, Matlock was responsible for the majority of the writing. Btw, Johnny claims the biggest influence on him (and punk, in general) was Ray Davies and the Kinks. He also preferred MC5 to the Stooges (even though they covered "No Fun" by the Stooges).

The Sex Pistols at their best.

Hep, I must respectfully disagree. Sid's half-hearted version of Sinatra's(Anka's) "My Way" was one of their throwaway tracks. It was done for Julian Temple's "Great Rock n Roll Swindle" film.  Sid was never really the Pistols lead singer. He was recruited by their manager, Malcom McLaren, to replace bassist Glenn Matlock. He was chosen purely on look and attitude (like a punk version of The Monkees). He had absolutely no talent whatsoever and was a despicable human wretch. The band often turned off his amp during live performances. When they didn't, a horrible "clunk, clunk" sound would emanate when he accidentally hit the bass strings (check out 1978's "Live at Winterland" recording). The band released one culture shaping album ("Never Mind the Bullocks.."), and then imploded. Sid killed his girlfriend and then took his own useless life before going to trial. He was a racist, scumbag, junkie. Face it...there are great heroin addicts (Miles Davis, Keith Richards, Johnny Thunders, Nick Cave, Kurt Cobain, etc) and then there's Sid (John Ritchie). The only thing he was good at was talking a beer bottle to the head and playing with his own blood. I'm sorry if I've offended fellow punks who may feel differently.

Well you've touched upon the two reasons why the Sex Pistols were at their best after Johnny Rotten left right there.

Sid Vicious was taken off bass, and replaced by the very competent Glen Matlock.

He had the right look and attitude to be the Sex Pistols' front man. Yes, of course he couldn't sing very well. But then neither could Johnny Rotten.

The point is, Sid was never their frontman. "My Way" was a stunt for their movie. After their first U.S. tour, they broke up. Sid got into legal trouble and died. You just thrive on being contrarian. Name one other Pistols song sung by Sid. He wasn't on their only studio album. I have no idea what you're talking about. Their fantastic lead guitarist, Steve Jones, is a high profile radio personality in L.A.. You can email him to set you straight on this. You know your psychedelic bands, I know punk. Can't you just accept that? Mars, Geezer...feel free to chime in.

Btw, I prefer bad singers. From Tom Waits to Bob Dylan to Keith Richards to Randy Newman to JOE STRUMMER. Sid was just a punching bag for the punks. They idolized him because he wore swastikas and was a total nihilist, not because he contributed anything vital to the band.
