Tom Smith Monsternut

Twilight Zone .. all the way ! I do like OL but it was just a monster a week stories, TZ has some great thought provoking stories and some cool monsters too ! :)

Twilight Zone.

I have only seen a few Ouer Limits episodes, but I remember watching Twilight Zone after M*A*S*H with my brother in the summertime. TZ episodes also stand out with clear favorites, one being with Burgess Meredith breaking his glasses with all the books at his fingertips. That ending is disturbing to this day for me.
"For one who has lived but a single lifetime, you are a wise man ...Van Helsing."
"I shall awaken memories of love and crime and death..."

Hard choice, TZ was thought provoking and had some of the best writing on TV at a time when TV was at its dramatic best.  OL was inventive, scary and also thought provoking. I have to go with TZ, Serlings' writing was superb. Plus he adapted stories by Bradbury, hawthone and MAtheson. THATS hard to beat.  An interesting thread..
Have the Lambs stopped screaming Clarice?....Dr. Lector

A hard choice indeed, they're both great shows. I'll have to go with the TZ w/it's great stories. It also covered more ground.

Re: OL, I for one LIKED the monster-of-the-week format, why not? And who knows what directions OL may have explored if it aired longer?
"Well friends, that's all there is to life: just a little laugh, a little tear." - Prof. Echo (Lon Chaney, Sr.)

Creature Features

Twilight Zone. Tom Smith sums up my feelings why to a tee.
"It's Alive...oh, It's Alive! It's Alive, It's Alive...IT'S ALIVE!!!"

My preference is The Outer Limits mainly because the stories were more Science Fiction oriented and of course there was a monster nearly every week. I love the Twilight Zone as well and the wonderful twists most of the stories had, but the Outer Limits grabbed me more.
You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred.

You have to make it fair. Outer Limits only ran for 49 episodes. TZ ran for 156 episodes. How LONG will I be on this island??

All things being equal, I'm going strong for the Outer Limits.

I grew up with both series.  They were still new back then.  And I must confess I loved the Outer Limits when it first came on.  There was nothing (TZ included) quite like it.   And maybe that is why it didn't last.

Not long ago one of the local TV stations began running the Outer Limits.  Until I saw them again after many years, I never realized how heavy handed the morales of many of the episodes were.

Twilight Zone was a bit of a more mixed bag. There were preachy episodes and there were some played mostly for fun.  For the Outer Limits, it was pretty much the monster of the week show. Twilight Zone monsters could be, and often were, within the minds of the protagonists.

I enjoy both, but if I were stuck on an island for any length of time, a little more variety would be be nice. ;)

BTW where do we get the electricity for the DVD player?

The Professor on Gilligan's Island made electricity from coconuts and the static electricity caused by Gingers breasts rubbing together.

That's a tough question.  I like them both.  I think I'd swim for home.  My son saw that Burgess Meredith episode (Time Enough at Last) when he was really little.  That left a real impression.  He felt so sorry for that guy.  I think the word is empathy.

Pound for pound, I'll take the Outer Limits (particularly the first season) over the Twilight Zone.

TZ is great and all but, on the whole, the stories have skewed more corny and sentimental over time in comparison to OL. Production values and technical craftsmanship were consistently superior on OL as well IMO.

Dr.Teufel Geist

Old school Twilight Zone, none of that late 80's/ early 90's crap.

Gasport

Twilight Zone, hands down... historically it did for sci-fi what the Honeymooners did for TV sit-coms.
