The legendary Christopher Lee has finally been given a knighthood. About damn time!

"Dracula actor Christopher Lee may finally accept he is a legend, now he's been honoured by the Queen.

The 87-year-old - who once said "To be a legend, you've either got to be dead or excessively old!" - was knighted in the Queen's Birthday Honours List yesterday.

Lee is one of the most prolific screen actors of all time.

With more than 250 film and TV credits to his name, he is best known for his his role as the fearsome vampire in the Hammer Horror movies.

But Lee also played iconic roles as Lord Summerisle in The Wicker Man and as Scaramanga in the 1974 Bond film The Man with the Golden Gun.

Recently, he starred as Saruman in the Lord Of The Rings trilogy and as Count Dooku in the Star Wars prequels.

His agent said he is in New Mexico, but "aware" he was now Sir Christopher."

"There are many gods in Bal-Sagoth, but the greatest of all is Gol-goroth, the god of darkness who sits forever in the Temple of Shadows."

I agree, this is a long time coming and long overdue.  Good for him.  Lets hope he still has a few years left to enjoy the  honor.

Congrats to Sir Chris. I think Peter Cushing should be knighted posthumously

Congratulations to Sir Christopher--and yes, Cushing should have been knighted long ago.  We longtime Cushing fans have called him "Sir" (as his secretary Joyce Broughton did) for decades--but I agree, the powers that be should give him a posthumous nod.  And it would make Sir Christopher pretty darn happy, too, to see his old friend honored!

Strange. I just finished watching "Horror of Dracula" literally moments ago. This is great news, and he totally deserves it. If you ask me, he's deserved it for a long time.

Lee deserves this title, great news indeed.  As an even bigger Cushing fan, I also believe Peter Cushing deserves this as well.

The other strange thing about this honour is all the U.K newspapers all had a colour photo of him as Dracula on the covers.

Well deserved and LOOOOOOOOOOONG overdue. I'm glad they didn't let the sand run out of the hourglass before they woke up as they did with Peter Cushing.
