(I cleared with one of the moderators of this 'General Discussion' section that it would be appropriate to start this thread.)

So... what did you do today?

This thread can be a gathering place for personal day-to-day news, check-ins, musings and such.  Rather like Twitter or a Facebook update, this can be a spot to quickly touch base with the community and stay connected.  Share the details of a good or bad day at work, how you are feeling, how the family is doing, sniffles and sneezes, aches and pains, slings and arrows, something you saw on t.v. or a bit of news that caught your attention... the big stuff and the little stuff, exciting or boring--

What is going on in your corner of the world today?

Dear Elizabeth--Today I went to a local nursery and found some plants I coveted--and so I bought 'em for the bed along the front walk: Maltese Cross, Blue Flax, Cranesbill, Oswego Tea, and Campanula poscharskyana (well, they can't ALL have old-timey names!).  Then went and had Korean lunch with friend Jill, and from there visited elderly pals Karen & Wib for iced tea and conversation.  Then home, to plant the aforementioned plants--and collapse.  Still recovering from the Wonderfest exhaustion/letdown!

Hi, today I worked with my uncle driving his oil truck to make a delivery to a water treatment plant here in NJ. I have been hurt and had shoulder surgery, so this was my 1st day in awhile being back in the workforce. It was beautiful weather, a short trip and we had fun chatting in the truck. After that, I went to my sisters salon, she cut my hair and I flirted with her co-workers :)

I was pleasantly suprised that a part of my Amazon order was in the mailbox, and I took advantage by watching my new copy of the original The Day The Earth Stood Still. I watched the end of the Yankee game and jotted down some lyric ideas for my next band rehearsal.

Its pretty lights out now, so I'll pop in a Honeymooners dvd, hit the lights and doze off.....after about another 30 min on here!

Ah went to work, had lunch with an old friend, saw my Dad off back home to Florida (sad face);fed my tarantula, made little wire tops for the pumpkin squirrel protectors, then watered them, the sunflowers and a little running girl, ate spaghetti, did the dishes and flopped in front of the Twins game with my laptop then switched to King of the Hill a really nice day. A check for four shows I did last weekend finally came yaay! and now - - - -  GOODNIGHT m.o.o.n. that spells MOON

M-O-O-N (that spells moon!)--Tom Cullen, bless him--I loved that character.  And KING OF THE HILL.  And a haircut and DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL and HONEYMOONERS...  Ya know, Elizabeth--this thread is kind of like sittin' on the front porch at the end of the day and shootin' the breeze a little while.  I like the glimpses into UMA friends' days.  Good call!

Talked to Elizabeth, got a shot in my knee from the doc to help the Wonderfest recovery process, talked to Elizabeth some more, paid some bills, did some paperwork, went to the bank and deposted some money so the bill payments would clear, ate a cherry snowcone, went to my office to pick up the mail, paid more bills, argued with the insurance guy processing my wife's accident claim, went over to my mother's house and helped her out with a few things, made a vet appoinment for the cat, and a bunch of other stuff, most of which consisted of costing money and none of which consisted of making money.  Tomorrow...  we move to (hopefully) making money.

Oswego Tea as in Monarda, Robert? Gosh, I love those.  The flowers always look like firecrackers, they are loaded with butterflies, hummingbirds and the like... and you can't beat a flower that smells like Earl Grey tea. :)

Black Lagoon... glad to hear you are on the mend there! I hope the injury was not too serious, and is not giving you too much discomfort as you heal.

Packy, if you are sorry to see him go, that must mean it was a good visit.  And it's so nifty you have a pet tarantula! (Keep the radioactive stuff away from it, though... ;-D)

Bobby, I had a "Salon Pas" pain patch on each leg today, so... my sympathies! I sure hope that shot helps quickly!  (Funny how you never mentioned getting shots today... remind me to throw hairy fishy eyes at you sometime.)

It feels like I had to hit the ground running since we got back from WonderFest on Monday... yesterday I went with mom-in-law to her cardiologist, today it was flower shopping with my mom and helping her move a jungle worth of plants up to her condo unit (she has multiple balconies with all sorts of planters) and then tomorrow it's my doctor appt. in the Windy City and a swing by the lair of Mr. Goolie (Svengoolie) to drop off his Rondo.

I'm looking forward to Friday, and catching my breath! My suitcase still has clothes in it.

And I am glad you like the thread, Robert.  I really liked the visual you gave to it!  I bet our rockers would all creak, this being a sort of haunted house...  :)

What came to my mind very quickly and very clearly was the Andy Griffith "Man in a Hurry" episode--with Barney sitting on the porch saying to Andy that he thought he'd "take and nap--and then over to Thelma Lou's for some t.v.--yep, that's the plan..."  That's what we all need--just a simple plan that involves naps and tv and maybe some food--and STOP being in a gol-darn hurry once in a while.  This is a nice porch you made here, Elizabeth--and you're right, the rockers DO creak.  And there's an owl just hooted over in those dark trees there.  But we can go inside--into the mellow lamplight--and watch some t.v.--if it gets too scary out here!

Woke up, fell out of bed, dragged a comb across my head...

Seriously, got up, got my vitamins and some juice. Toast. Fiber One cereal (I LOVE being 40).
Got out in the yard and did some long-needed cleaning we'd delayed due to on/off rain for weeks... finally a chance to cut, trim, tend and nurture. AND put an end to the neighborhood rumor that the Bumpuses had moved in.
Then, a trip to the store.
Wrote for a few hours. Edited previous story, sent it to the Copyright online office.
Fielded calls from medical and insurance guys (I'm feeling your pain Toy Ranch) and scored a small victory there.
Caught a few massive fishing/grass spiders which seem to have invaded our home this Spring... harmless but ungodly ugly. Got them outside down the hill, hopefully they'll stay away from the house now.
Hung out with the cutest, greatest granddaughter in history. Don't argue.
Homemade pizza.
Wife and I had great talk, as usual, about everything we'd done all day. Laughed at granddaughter's exploits.
Glass of wine, and now on the UMA board.

I like this idea, Elizabeth; it's like a more in-depth Twitter, but from people I like.

And funny... when you write it out, even cursory, you realize you had a much better day than you thought.

Elizabeth, thanks for starting this wonderfully creative post. I, too, think this is a great way to end the day.

I got up early to put togehter a new pool for the kids - had to get one that didn't seem too small (19 yr old is 6'8", 15 yr old is 6'6", 10 yr old is beginning to sprout, 5 yr old looks 9, I'm 6'4", so you get the point). Next, I attempted to comfort a good friend who's job was phased out this week, prepped the grill for a major cookout this weekend, cleaned the yard, helped with homework, bought dinner and watched the game. Will start again in 4 hours. Goodnight!

Woke up late, took the glider apart on the front porch, sanded the wood down, applied the first coat of stain, mowed the lawn, mowed the neighbors lawn, went to lowe's for supplies. sat on the porch and enjoyed a nice cigar, watched the Cavs -Magic game, then watched a movie "Flight of the living dead". busy day tomorrow, need to finish the glider and paint the bottom of the boat. Nice thread Elizabeth.

Today I successfully avoided being killed by ninja assassins and invisible Greek dinosaurs (the worst kind!). I call that a good day indeed ;)
