The Creeper

I used to have a red one and I thinks a green one.  Wish I still had the little coffins they were cool.
Long live the UMA!

Alright---I know this is necroposting....thread died several years ago. But who cares? Today, for the low price of $1...I got a (harder to find) BLACK Mr. Bones coffin-- with a miniature rubber skeleton from the 80's crammed inside it,lol. It looks grand with my Munchy Mummy candy container. Hard to believe the awesome stuff we had as kids of the 70's-80's. Sadly, no fossilized candy was inside however, lol.

I realize the nostalgia factor may be lost on 60's monster kids...but give us Johnny -born- latelies a chance here, lol. 8)

Precisely! I never understood why anybody would object to resurrecting an old thread. Makes a lot more sense than starting another one.

Leaf Boot Hill Candy company tombstone with candy bones still inside. I know there were also generic bone shapes for arms and legs, and a rib cage but all I have left are hands and a skull.

I also have Mr. Bones candy coffins in Halloween colors orange and black of course, that had a jigsaw puzzle skeleton candy that you could assemble.

This brought back sooo many memories of Trick or Treating in the 80s!  I LOVED Mr Bones - Always assembled him before eating!!  :)

Wicked Lester

When I was 18 I had a pet mouse named Edgar. He was pretty cool. When he died I put him to rest in one of these. I'd forgotten about that for years until I saw this thread.

Allhallowsday

I remember that there certainly used to be "candy collectors" - the ultimate ephemera collector -  who saved and sought out old untouched candy, particularly holiday decorations... a prominent dealer showed me a box of foil wrapped chocolate Christmas tree decorations, still in their box, 30 years ago that then had to be 80 years old...
If you want to view Paradise, simply look around and view it.

I have never heard about this before! Nice new knowledge.
They sell "scary skeletons" now that is kinda the same, but with a very much less good looking coffin. You probably already know this, but I thought it might be worth to mention because of the similarity.

oh, and I also know a russian(?) version of those who they sell here, but I don't know how to translate the name. :/

These are very cool! I love the skull licorice. Are you Russian, Zombabe?

Quote from: BlackLagoon on May 04, 2009, 09:18:54 PMGood call...I think its pretty much a done deal!

Frank Fleer's descendants sold confection company Fleer in 1989 to other private interests for just under $70 million. Fleer at the time marketed confections under name brands which included the iconic Dubble Bubble brand together with trading cards.

The comic book company Marvel Entertainment Group purchased Fleer from these private interests in July 1992 for US$340 million!  Marvel then purchased another card company, SkyBox International, in March 1995 for $150 million and merged Skybox into Fleer. I clearly remember wondering at the time what more Marvel was really getting purchasing Skybox as well since Marvel already had the Fleer vehicle/name brand to market any cards they could. Well I was right to wonder. Marvel declared bankruptcy in 1996.

The Dubble Bubble name brand was sold to Canada's Concord Confections in 1998. Concord Confections was itself acquired by Tootsie Roll Industries in 2004.

Marvel sold Fleer/Skybox to private interests for no more than $30 million in February 1999. Fleer went bankrupt again in early 2005 and Upper Deck bought the "Fleer" brand name for $6.1 million in July 2005.

How's that for a sordid tale of corporate incompetence on the part of Marvel?

Yes, I agree!
No, I'm Swedish but they import the candy to smaller candy shops and so. :)

You don't see many around here (Los Angeles) in shops. Even during Halloween, there's not much variety. What are your main areas of interest, if I may ask? Do you like classic horror, modern horror, slasher, supernatural....? Just curious.

PenelopePitStop

Hello,

here in the UK those sweets were called Bone Shaker. I have a red coffin.  :D

Sorry for such a late reply! I actually spoke about various "halloween candy" with a friend the other day, and we both agreed on that they do not really seem to understand that it's only halloween once a year.. Haha. There is always candy skeletons, eyes and what not in the stores the whole year around here. And pumpkin decorations! Like, I bought "cottoncandy spiderweb" yesterday and it's july.
I won't complain though!

My true main area is comic books but when it comes to movies I prefer classic horrors and psychological thrillers. I guess you could say that I prefer that creepy feeling you get when you realise something, over the one that pop-up jump scares gives you.
