What I want on TV because Sci-Fi is horrible!!!

I'm rehabing an injury so theres more TV time and I keep hoping that Sci-Fi..excuse me SYFY or whatever its gonna be is gonna show something cool, and it doesnt, it sucks, its sucks something of colossal proportions. Every other show is Star Gate, and apparently Battle Star Galactica does well. The original stuff is down right unwatchable..dont even get me started with Man-Thing or David Hasselhoff as Nick Fury..I looked at my comics and got a stomach ache after that.

Whats worse, is that as horror/fantasy/science fiction fans we have such a celebrated history and a very deep catolouge. I know this is going to be biased because I really am NOT into anything modern with the exception of a few things here and there. I'll give them Twilight Zone...always nice to have that on New Years Day while nursing a hangover. But here's some things I would like to see on the Sci-Fi channel.....which I wont, so thank the folks who came up with DVD!!!

In short more classics and once a week a "creature feature", throw us old school/classic fans a friggin bone!!....Here is what fun TV in my personal opinion would be:

Star Trek
Star Trek TNG
Night Gallery
(more) Twilight Zone
The Six Million Dollar Man
"V"
Incredible Hulk
Voyage To The Bottom Of The Sea
Tales From The Crypt
Dark Shadows
Dr. Who (original)

Those are just SOME Tv shows I havent seen in a long time

Movies:
Throw us a bone and show 1..thats ONE Universal Monster a week!!! C'mon man THEY MADE YOU!!
Day The Earth Stood Still (original, please God only the original)
Tron...every little kid that thinks the Matrix is the original tech head be all end all movie..PLEASE go watch Tron
How To Make A Monster
Creepshow 1&2
Metropolis
Crawling Eye
The Black Hole
Clash Of The Titans
Sinbad
Jason And The Argonauts

While I'm ranting..why dont they ever show serials? I know I've been on a Crimson Ghost kick, again, on "throwback" night show that and Flash Gordon or something.

How about having a collectors corner, and honestly they might I dont watch long enough..but doesnt anyone else think a "talk show" that showcases collections would be a cool idea? Who here wouldnt tune in to see people in the business past and present speak about The Mego Co., Aurora Model kits, Remco Monsters...everything from Star Wars toys to Don Post studios....imagine if there was a TV show where the sculptors at Sideshow Toys were the guests? Or just some average joe with a great collection came on to share his/her stuff? Or talk about ebay...hell eBay should be the sponser!! Why not get make up artists on to share secrets for Halloween?

I'm all types of worked up...who wants to get some torches and march down there right now!!! We need a cool TV Channel and its not Sci-Fi!!!

I have to agree! I remember one of the reasons for me to get cable was the SciFi Channel but things went from bad to worse. I haven't watched the channel in years. I remember back in the early days, they did have a half hour show that was sort of a news show that covered conventions, products and even a rant by Harlan Ellison Andy Rooney style. I think the niche broadcasting like this is in the realms of video podcasts casts now.

siffee shows wrestling, for cryin' out loud! honest to gawd wrestling programmes! now, what in the blue blazes does wrestling have to do with science-fiction?

i agree, you have a perfect opportunity to have a documentary series there, so why not use it? why pander to people who have no interest in sci-fi/fantasy, just to rope in a demographic that doesn't get it, but will hate it once they tune in? way to piss on your core audience.

hey, it's not rocket science here, siffee ~ show quality programmes and people will watch! is that a difficult business model to follow? why worry about all these demographics *that have their own channel* already?! for the cost of one awful movie, how much documentary programming can you get for the same buck? true, you can sell the movies, but i have to wonder if anyone is really making a mad dash to blockbuster to buy 'frankenfish.' i'd imagine that that's a revenue stream that dries up pretty quick. can't say how much they make off rentals, but i bet it's a good chunk. assuming, of course, the demographic interested in such junk isn't computer savvy and can't just download a sharefile (oo, uh-oh, the internut cops will catch me and cut off my internut! on a desktop, yes, laptop, not yet).

ya know what's pathetic? it's getting killed by a channel devoted to *video games*! G4 is more about sci-fi/fantasy than the channel what calls itself sci-fi. i don't know how many video game developers i've watched give interviews there. what's the channel that shows movies and inbetween the segments has deleted scenes, how it was done parts and bits of trivia? c'mon, siffee, you're being blasted out of the sky by nominally original concepts (or at least concepts that haven't been done in awhile), all the while raking in a pittance with hack scripts that'd make george lucas blush.

show a monster movie. have a host. yes, i'm well aware this concept was done away with almost 30 years ago when programmers decided there was more money to be made with infomercials, but given your average 'standard' of production values, can it set you back *that* much? heaven for fend you do something creative with the idea.

in siffee's defense....

now that that's done, i have one title for you:

If you're cable company carries American Life TV Network, they run Irwin Allen stuff on Thursday nights--Lost in Space, The Time Tunnel, Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea, and Land of the Giants.  They also carry Mission: Impossible, Batman, and The Green Hornet, as well as some other classic shows.

I def dont get that channel and I forgot to mention Lost In Space..that is on my "to buy" DVD list....and the thing was, when I was in the 7th grade, so early 90's? Every single day in the summer L.I.S. was on in the morning on Sci-Fi...now Im watching McGayver fight ancient Egyptians on StarGate or something that lost my attention the 1st 18 seconds.

If you wanna see any of those, better get to watchin', 'cause they could get yanked at any moment! (About 80% of them are on DVD, of course.)

BTW The Irwin Allen shows are on hulu.com.

It's not only Sci-Fi but TV Land that is drifting away from the goodness it once was.

Yeah, that guy has an impressive channel. I've definitely got to watch some of these before YT hits him with the ban stick.

Hey this is cool! Maybe something like this should be constructed on the UMA site incorporating these links, as well as the HuLu links and other video links of interest... It could be the UMA Channel!

This also makes the idea of a UMA group viewing a whole lot easier. Selecting from these links, a movie would be picked as UMA Movie of the Week (or Month) and a thread could be opened devoted to the movie.

Yep. Another reason I switched to cable back when.... then MST3K went south. Just watched my copy of MST3K's "Master Ninja" with the kid last night.

For anyone who misses the show, check out www.cinematictitanic.com

Put MST3K back on!  Also Lost in Space.  And forgoodness sake why isn't the original Star Trek on?  They need more good old B&W 50's type SciFi movies like the Jan in a Pan (I've already forgotten the real name!).  What about One Step Beyond?  The powers that be made SciFi Channel really stupid.  I upgraded our cable to get it, too.  Within a week of that LIS was gone.  I never watch their original stuff.  I hate all the original stuff on all the otherwise good channels (i.e. TVLand)

Isn't Tron the movie with Joan Crawford in it?

You're thinking of Trog. Tron was the computer one with Jeff Bridges and the girl from Caddyshack.

Also, anyone else notice that MSTs have been getting pulled and put back on YouTube? Last round, they were just listed by episode number, not movie.
