Hello all! Id like to touch on the subject of having an exit strategy in case I pass before my lovely young bride does. Im sure this has been a topic of discussion among households anywhere a collector lives. We are at the age where my wife if worrying about our mortality, and more importantly, what to do with my collection if I should go first unexpectedly lol. Has anyone experienced this themselves? Known someone this has happened to? We just would like to see the stuff go to loving homes, not wind up at Goodwill. Again, this would be the hypothetical situation where I didnt get the chance to take care of things myself before I go to that big laboratory in the sky...
Do you know where you are, Bartolome? I'll tell you where you are. You are about to enter Hell, Bartolome, HELL!...

Well, I'm no trust & estate lawyer but you might start by making
a contact list of fellow collectors and photographing your best
pieces with descriptive notes and values attached. That way, your
heirs will have a clue as to how your stuff should be offered.

Start a blog and categorize your items. Then a novice can sell it off, or know what it is should this happen. I started one in an attempt to do this, but got bored and quit, and barely scratched the surface.

I've already started selling. Started with the magazines, but eventually the CDs and DVDs will have to be thined down to my favorites. Creature collection will be last. If I up and croak next week, somebody will just have to figure it out.  ;D  People are not going to spend the rest of their lives selling my stuff on eBay, though.

Appreciate all the responses! I dont know of any fellow collectors close to me...
I started taking pics today and was able to edit prices onto the pieces. Guess I will have to reevaluate the pics every 10 years or so lol. Again thanks for all the comments! I believe I have a good base to start from!!

Odd this should come up now....just sold the bulk of my collection this morning to a collector in Maryland.
We're all here because we're not all there.

Hope everything is OK and you are just downsizing. I'm unloading some of my stuff, too.
