From Paragon at my local Freshco supermarket and on Amazon:

Four weirdly shaped books, four masks, one "board" game and three trick or treating bags!

McDonalds has new Halloween Happy Meal Buckets. Looks like there's a purple vampire (with a witches hat top which is odd), white mummy, green Frankenstein or orange Jack o'Lantern:

If they can give these out, why can't the go back to giving out little monster toys for Halloween?

Haven't seen this posted. Just saw at Spirit Halloween locally. Naturally both were broken and didn't light up

Spirit has had those for a couple of years now. I wonder if the ones you are seeing are just old stock?

They tend to have things for a few Halloweens unless they're really hot items.  Wouldn't surprise me if these were holdovers from last year at all.

So...  What "New For Halloween" item was the star of 2023?

I think the Frankenstein and Creature Candy pails qualify for serious consideration.

What are your thoughts?

Those pails don't say "Halloween!" to me as much as bags with more traditional Halloween imagery like on this pillow:

I bought a huge bag at Dollarama with a hissing cat in a spooky setting for the two year old daughter of the postman down the street. The bag was bigger than she was but she seemed more enthralled with it than with the treats she was getting. She refused to let her mother carry it for her and dragged it up the stairs by herself.

This is been such an amazing year to be a monster lover, and with the scheduled NECA Creature figure releasing this season, you would think nothing would be closer to my heart but... the Trick or Treat Studios Creature candy pail is something I've dreamt of since I was five. It's simply perfect, and that it was a surprise release, limited, shipped in time for Halloween, and was only $20... how much more can a dream come true? It's probably toy of the year for me, which I understand might seem crazed given everything that goes into creating something like the NECA figures, but the heart wants what the heart wants, and ToTS won mine with their Creature from the Black Lagoon candy pail.

The Creature pail is the star to me.  It seemed to come out of nowhere.  There are so few Creature items. And from a company that is losing its Universal license at the end of the year.  The handsome Karloff Frankenstein pail comes in second.

Toys are year-round, but items made strictly for Halloween are much scarcer.  I hope next year brings some Universal Monsters Halloween decorations.

This first year of pails was definitely a show stopper.  Creature, Frank, AND the Halloween lll masks?  That's one hell of a launch.  Technically I think the Halloween 1978 pail was their first, and that is also a very cool one, but these made it.  Hoping we get a Wolf Man, Phantom and a Dracula since they still have Karloff and Chaney likenesses and they seem to be able to get around that stuff now.

And maybe a Chaney Mummy?
