Also known as Forrest J Ackerman's MONSTERLAND I have a complete run on this title
from the mid 1980s, published by New Media Inc (later Movieland Publishing). FJA's
name appeared on the covers until issue #10 although he was credited on the title
pages as "Editor Emeritus" for every one that followed. The covers themselves featured
photographs (no FM-style paintings) from then current horror/scifi favorites as well as
a few color pages within. Photo reproduction on the black&white pages was often poor
but the articles were fun reads, covering classic and contemporary movies plus related
subjects. I especially enjoyed the "Catacomb" department as it usually featured masks
and the artists who create them. A scream queen of the time was selected as their
horror hostess "Evila" and appeared on the final cover of MONSTERLAND along with
The Halloween Society's "Bride Monster" mask.

Got the 1st issue for nostalgic reasons.  Kind of a more adult version of Famous Monsters after Ackerman left FM due to a dispute with James Warren.  After 1 issue of FM without Ackerman FM & all Warren Titles ceased and Warren Publishing went belly up.

Ackerman left Monsterland over many of the same disputes he had with Warren.  "Evila" was likely added for sex appeal, and she was kind of a poor man's Elvira.  "Evila" was scream queen Brooke Stevens.

FYI - I still have issue # 1, and I read it over once a year, at this time of the year (December).  Again, for nostalgic purposes - I saw the issue on the news stand shortly after the birth of my daughter.  So reading it reminds me of those happy times.
