Mego Universal Monsters Hunchback is Somehow Laughton

Not sure why everyone seems to be pointing figures at MEGO? Surely someone at Universal approved this packaging; it isn't like Universal to just let a company put out whatever they want without them giving the go ahead.

Interesting point. I remember on an official Universal Monsters page (either Facebook or Twitter) they actually used this same picture of Laughton. Could honestly be they sent Mego that picture to work with.

Universal Suit 1:  "We need a picture of one of our monsters...  Hunchback, I think... but he can NOT be played by Chaney.  Did Karloff play him?"

Universal Suit 2:  "I don't think so."

Universal Suit 1:  "Dammit."

Universal Suit 2:  "Isn't that the guy Lugosi played anyway?"

Universal Suit 1:  "It's Igor with an I or Y?"

Universal Suit 2:  "I don't know... Just call him by his other name... Hunchback!"

Universal Suit 1:  "Gotcha."  [sends pic to MEGO.]

Actually, Universal Suit # 2 more likely said "Chaney...Karloff...never heard of them.  Here, I did a google search - pick one of these to send to them."
