I noticed that the odd pairing of  Creature from the Black Lagoon and Phantom of the Opera are being shown at a couple of my Regal Cinemas on Saturday, October 29th at 1pm. There doesn't appear to be any other showings and Creature from the Black Lagoon doesn't appear to be in 3D (what a missed opportunity). Also why not do a double bill with another Creature feature like The Mole People instead? I know because The Mole People isn't included on the Bluray/4K collections.

Scream released it on Blu-ray. Nothing is on 4K, except the first movies of the monster series (Frankenstein, Dracula, CFTBL, etc.)

Precisely my point of Universal pushing the Phantom over a more logical choice to bill with the Creature.

I'm guessing that Universal feels that the Phantom is more marketable because it is in color. Also, in terms of Academy Awards, it is the winningest monster movie that Universal ever produced.

The film is in the public domain, but the Phantom likeness is a different thing. You have to pay Universal and/or the Chaney family a fee for making toys, etc.

I'm fresh back from the first of two "Fathom Event" screenings this month:
The Mummy '32 and Bride of Frankenstein '35. The theatre was
clean and comfortable with reclining seats, just like in my living room.
Both movies looked grand on the big screen with only a five minute break
between them. 'Sad that there were only around a dozen of us in the
audience to appreciate them. Afterwards, I inquired of a young staffer
as to what format we watched them in. He said they were "transmitted
digitally via satellite" but didn't seem too certain. Not that I really cared;
the classics are so good, they can transcend most any technical medium.
My only complaint is ... someone thought it was a good idea to add a
new music score over the previously score-less scenes in The Mummy.
Several times, the new score was rolling right over the existing one!
I chatted with a teenage couple on the way out who'd never seen either
movie before. I told them about meeting Elsa Lanchester as a wee lad
and they seemed quite impressed (some folks never even believe me
at all, lol). We hope to see each other again at the Creature/Phantom
event at month's end.

Who do you suppose "they" is? Not Universal.

I'm not sure, but they were advertising the 4 movies they are showing this month as a 4K 4 pack release. I seriously hope the "They" in this case are not Universal themselves because that might mean that they are releasing this version as well. I don't know who added these things to the movie, but I would bet that it wasn't done behind Universals back. If you were Fathom, would you risk editing and altering a beloved classic movie and lose any future ability to show Universal Properties?
