We watched ep. 4 last night, and things are set up in such a way that makes me think the Gomez thing is a frame job. I don't want to say how I think it was done, but they have large neon blinking lights pointing to this being the outcome.

A friend who knows what a fan I am of Charles Addams, made the show available to me, and really wanted me to see it. I gave in and watched it. Wednesday experiences some character growth throughout the series, and after the first episode, later episodes did have some interaction with other family members, which I did enjoy. The one episode with Fester, may have been the best one in the series for me. So, I'm glad I enjoyed it more then I thought I would.

Episode 4 had nice homages to Carrie and the Wolf Man.  The last scene tells me Burton would be great at directing a serious remake of a classic Universal, if he didn't allow his own art to get in the way.  Also, Danny Elfman is definitely recycling some of his score to Dark Shadows, which is really nice to hear, because his score for that film is beautiful.  It should have had more Bob Cobert in it, but it was a stunning score nonetheless.

Finished Episode 5, and I knew it was different.  Not directed by Tim Burton at all.  Unfortunate, as I was really enjoying his hands-on work on this series.  I guess only the first half of the show is directed by Burton.  Morticia is a bit better in this episode.  Gomez is still very meh...  Not a lot of interesting things to note in this one.  It wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as the previous ones, and it's obviously directed by someone who is not Tim Burton.

Since they have flashbacks of Gomez when he went to Nevermore, I thought Guzman was fine playing the older version of the character in the present. Of course, knowing that Charles Addams based Gomez look on then New York Mayor Tom Dewey, he wasn't originally supposed to be the romantic figure he'd become in the 1964 TV series. J. Evil Scientist (Hannah Barbera) and Boris Badeonov (Jay Ward) were both based on the figure that when the the Addams Family TV show came out was called "Gomez". Also, Addams originally wanted the character to be called "Repelli", which the TV show creators rejected, so Gomez was his second choice.

I don't mind his looks.  It's his acting.  I don't know why he's playing the character so emotionlessly.

Finished it tonight and overall found it very watchable. The lead is quite good and supporting cast isn't bad. I just wish they'd had more fun with the concept of a school for "freaks and geeks" as it were. For Parents Day, they should have gone for broke and really shown some interesting creatures. Instead, we pretty much got bupkis on that front. Wanted to see a Cousin Itt type make an appearance, but most of the parents looked like "normies."

The last episode has some pretty poor CGI creature work compared to the rest of the series. Aesthetically, it was well done otherwise. One thing I didn't get was how old the kid in the coffee shop is supposed to be. Never see him attend school so I assumed he was in his 20s, yet he's trying to date a 16 year old. Creepy.

It was fun to see them cast Gomez to match the original cartoons, yet Lurch looked way too normal. Just a tall guy. Loved (most) of the Thing stuff, though. Bottom line, I'd watch a Season 2.

Being Wednesday, I decided to write a blog with my thoughts on the series as an Addams Family fan. I don't believe I've given any spoilers to those who haven't seen, or finished the series.

Just finished it.  Gotta say, "That was a damn good series."  This will definitely make me come back to Netflix when Season 2 debuts.

The final episode had great nods to Frankenstein, the Wolf Man, Dracula: Prince of Darkness, and even Tim Burton's Dark Shadows.  The one thing I want more of...  Lurch.  His character design is great.  I hope Cousin Itt, my favorite Addams (with Lurch a close second), and Grandmama join us in Season 2.

Like you, HH, I really loved Uncle Fester in this.  He was definitely more in line with Jackie Coogan than the Fester in the movies, and I so appreciate that, because Coogan IS Uncle Fester in my eyes.

I really enjoyed this series. I thought Jenna Ortega played Wednesday effectively, and like most of us, was pleased with the nods to classic Adams episodes and horror films. I have to admit my favorite scenes involved Thing ( and the goth dance number from Episode 4😜). I got a kick out of the Thing in New York YouTube video- a nice touch!

Isn't it adorable how the little ones are trying to gatekeep the Addams Family like it's their thing now?

Except this show isn't the Addams Family, It's specifically about Wednesday, with nods to the other family members. As a Wednesday centered show it works, Jenny Ortega was great in this, and for his single appearance as a guest star, Uncle Fester was great, and had good chemistry with Wednesday. Thing made a fun sidekick.

I thought everyone other than fester was way too bland.  I though Guzman had real potential in places.  When the car is pulling into Nevermore. And you see him looking out the window with a glasses over look in his eye, I thought that was great.  Gomez should always have a marbling of crazy.
