I wouldn't be the least surprised if the costume companies ripped off each other's designs.

Hah! To me stuff from the the 1970's is recent!

I think Glow in the Dark costumes started to appear around 1965 but I'm wondering whether it might have been a couple of years earlier.

Quote from: Spinal Remains on November 20, 2021, 02:36:03 PMHi, here's my Ben Cooper / Collegeville / Halco ect. vintage mask collection.

Row Below: Halco Devil / CV Vampire Girl / BC Witch / (unkown) Black Cat

Row Above: Halco Hobo / (unkown) Skeleton  / (unkown) Devil / Halco Clown

I believe that's a Collegeville Black Cat circa 1956 in the top row:

That unknown Skeleton in the bottom row is almost certainly this Collegeville skeleton from about 1960:

Spinal Remains. I've been looking for that particular costume for years. Awesome character.

I did see a seller auction the mask only. However. The seller way asking WAY too much for the mask.....without costume.

If I had to choose my five favourite masks from your collection at the moment, I'd pick these:

(*at*)Hepcat, those are some good ones, my favorites are probably the classic monster ones like wolfman dracula mummy Frankenstein. I just got a few new ones too.

Collegeville Frankenstein Monster:

Collegeville Witch 1984:

Ben Cooper TV Star Frankenstein:

One bad thing is they smell like cigarettes >:(

Collegeville Witch 1984:

Interesting! The witch you just scored is the one with which I was familiar. I thought that was the Collegeville Witch you had originally pictured but then I realized the one you'd pictured was a different one because she was smiling so my identification attempt failed.

I wonder which witch Collegeville produced first?

???

You might also want to keep an eye out for this Halco Witch costume which has a really wild and colourful mask:

yea those witches are very similar, i know the frowning one goes back a long time so thats probably first. Here's the oldest witch costume i have by far, probably from like 1950s?

Ben Cooper Witch:

Given the box and the flatness of the mask I'd say that with costume must be from the early 1950's.

Interesting too that the shawl part of the costume is similar to the shawl Charp13 is wearing here circa 1970 with a Zest Soap premium gypsy witch mask:

The shawl was part of some other costume which we've not succeeded in identifying.

Big update on front page!  ;D  bump ededed

Thanks for more fun memories of Halloweens past. I shouldn't look at them too long,
lest I get drawn in and start collecting them myself!

There are many antique shops in my area, with some vendors selling Ben Cooper and Collegeville.
