I finally scored a copy of Weird #10 (#1).

The seller called it G/VG (3.0) which is what most sellers would identify it as these days. I grade strictly by Overstreet and to me it's a FR/G (1.5). I usually avoid books that are this low in grade, but since this is the first Eerie Pubs issue it's pretty significant to those demented fiends who collect this stuff...so I quickly grabbed it. It's complete and the paper shows no signs of brittleness so it was a clear choice to buy for 30 bucks. There are three others currently on eBay ranging from G to VG and all three are over $150 each. This issue comes up infrequently enough to pretty much rule out finding one any cheaper than what I paid. Also, as I stated before, I don't mind low grade Eerie Pubs as much as I do other comics and mags. They wear the low grade mantle well and I think it speaks to how they were treated through the first 30 years or so of their existence. Since Weird #10 is the first Eerie Pubs I could see a high grade copy selling for stupid money in the current market environment. I've never seen one offered higher than mid grade, and prior to this I had never even seen one in person. The only reason a few are showing up now occasionally is because the high demand is scaring them up due to the prices they fetch. If I ever upgrade my beater copy I have no doubt I can turn a nice profit on it, but for the time being I finally have it in my collection, and all is right in my little Eerie Pubs hell.

Ohhhh! An all purpose Eerie Publications thread sure seeeeeeems like a good place to drop this, but if not please just lemme know and I'll rectify matters post-haste.

And what I'm wanting to share is an early 70's limited animation/ Saturday morning style cartoon (now THERE'S a happening niche, right?) that I made out of an Eerie pubs story which TOTALLY FREAKED ME OUT as a kid. That's right! Chic Stone's anti-LSD morality epic: "Blood Bath"!

Fair warning: This thing is absurdly faithful to the (gratuitously over-the-top) original comic with every absurd bit of dialogue and oodles of lopped-off this'n'thats included! I mean, I assume that just about anyone readin a thread celebrating these trashy mags is already well beyond hope, but I figured I'd at least mention it.

So! Here's a link to the version on my website with lotsa extra info about the folks that I bamboozled into helping out with this thing (as well as some extra art/ in-progress work/ blah blah blah):

And here's a link to just the video itself (so as to better serve this fast paced go-go world we live in):

Hope some of you folks enjoy it! And thanks to horrorhunter for sharing my earlier Eerie Publications/ Johnson Smith Novelty Company video upthread!

Another fangtastic animation, Jason! Delightfully grewsome! I don't know how they got away with stories like that, back then?

Ahhh, thanks/ so glad you dug it!

And yeah, these stories are often just So over-the-top that it's hard to figure. Maybe there was some general desensitization thanks to things like the (fairly graphic/complete with body bag reports, etc) coverage of the Vietnam war on the nightly news at the time? I really dunno.

All I can say for sure is that it is 100% bananas to me that I could just walk in and buy these things at a grocery store when I was all of 8 years old! Un-be-liev-able.
