Astoundingly, it seems Mego is releasing a Creature FTBL figure plus...

What does that mean? Is it very small, or not very interesting, or . .?

That, like a lot of Mego's cards, there's not a high level of design quality to it. I like their lo-fi approach well enough myself, but there are plenty of armchair quarterbacks when it comes to the new Mego Corporation. Figured I'd set the expectaion low should any of them wander by and feel the need to fatasize about how the $15 toy should be presented or manufatured or delivered to them or what have you. Check Mego's latest releases such as The Fly and Mr. Hyde to get a sense of what they're up to and what I'm told to expect.

I love the old Megos. I had all of the original Planet of the Apes when i was a kid. These new Megos though pretty much suck. They are cheap crappy figures and I realize they are trying to capture the charm and simple designs of the originals but they miss, they miss real bad. Their quality is worse than the original Megos. And what's the point? With todays technology and innovations they should still be able to create affordable 8" figures with decent designs and head sculpts. Their Lugosi Dracula looked nothing like Lugosi after they actually acquired the rights to produce the figure. They couldn't find a sculptor to at least try and come close to Bela's likeness? I like the 13" Wonder Woman they did and I picked up their 8" Farrah Fawcett but meh, this line has been a big disappointment to me.

That card art wasn't that bad. Big ol' fly on there.

I guess it was an improvement over the original card design:

Ditto.

A cheap toy doesn't HAVE to look and feel cheap.  At least not this cheap.

I wanted to love the Frankenstein figures, but I just couldn't.  I passed.

I hope for Mike's sake, that they do better on the Creature.

I like their Harold from Scary Stories to tell in the Dark. I like their Nosferatu. I like their Chaney Phantom. I  actually like their Bela Lugosi Dracula too. I like their 3 Wrath of Khan figures.  That's about all I like the new mego has done up.

I think their Lugosi Dracula and Nosferatu were pretty amazing. I also think the Headless Horseman figure is pretty cool when paired with a Breyer horse to ride on. I'm not much of a Mego fan at all but I've actually bought several of the classic horror figures. I still haven't found the Phantom anywhere.

Mego should take note of Super7's handling of the Monster toys-- their card art is brilliant.   I love the paintings, I loved the day glow SDCC exclusives from a few years ago-- it gets me to buy two so I can keep the card.   With the new Megos (of which I'm buying very few-- Bela and Nosferatu being about it) I instantly tossed the cards and bought only one.   I agree that a toy looks cheap with bad card art.   That's why I avoid a lot of Mego-esque figures.

Some of the Mego cards are lovely, honestly.  Some are lazy as hell.  It's weird.

I might be in the minority, but I'm very thankful and happy to see Mego still putting out $15 action figures of characters in the horror, sci-fi and fantasy genres.  Mego has been inconsistent at times, their distribution deal with Target was an utter disaster, and their character choices (especially, early on) have been highly questionable, but I still think we are getting a bargain at their price point.  With every Wave, there are usually 1 or 2 gems, and I hope collectors will continue to support Mego's products so we can continue getting much more in the future!

I totally agree with you and I'm also happy that this company has arisen after so many years. Looking at my new Mego monster collection brings a smile to my face and I'm looking forward to getting a few from this latest wave.

The Fly, Regan, Leatherface and Pennywise all look great in person. So-to-speak. Aside from the cardart. Great looking figures
