Could be worse..."Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte has warned that anyone breaking the coronavirus lockdown on the island of Luzon may be shot by the military or the police ..."
Crap. Here's a headline I've been dreading:Worldwide coronavirus cases reach 1 million, doubling in a week as death toll tops 50,000 https://tinyurl.com/wtcejd7
This isn't posted to depress members any more than they might be already. It is intended to give everyone even more incentive to take extra care in avoiding COVID-19.Medical care givers are telling us: "Those saved through extreme medical interventions, including being attached to mechanical ventilators for a week or two, often suffer long-term physical, mental and emotional issues, according to a staggering body of medical and scientific studies. Even a year after leaving the intensive care unit, many people experience post-traumatic stress disorder, Alzheimer’s-like cognitive deficits, depression, lost jobs and problems with daily activities such as bathing and eating."Please stay healthy.
It's frightening. Where I was worried that the dozens infected in New Rochelle just north of New York City would quickly become several hundred in the state within a week, the current count of 950 is way beyond what I feared. I was expecting cases in Florida to mushroom from under ten and they now stand at 137, but I was stunned to see cases in Louisiana jump from a couple just over a week ago to 114 right now. Even states such as Michigan and Ohio where there were zero cases less than a week ago now have 53 and 50 cases respectively. And I thought Italy's total was shockingly high when it got to over 5000 just over a week ago on March 7th. Well the case count in Italy has now jumped by over 7087 in the last two days alone and hospitals can't even cope with the critical! Evidently when the first case was encountered in Italy on February 17th, the young fellow wasn't taken seriously and was repeatedly dismissed from the hospital as opposed to being put in isolation. They somehow didn't think a disease erupting in "far off" China could appear in Italy....Here's where I'm getting my numbers:Worldwide Infections - WorldometersU.S. Infections - NY TimesPeople now need to change their everyday behaviour. It's gone past avoiding planes. We're now getting full-fledged community transmission.
Adam, thank you so much for this devastating information. I count on you for fact based reporting. Thanks for caring.
Among the possibilities Hutton and others have mentioned for the rapid spread in Michigan:Detroit Metropolitan Airport, which has a large international hub and flights to Wuhan, China, where the outbreak originated in December and its airport remained open until Jan. 23. Supply lines between Detroit automakers and Wuhan, a major auto hub and home to five car manufacturers including Dongfeng Motor, one of the biggest in China. General Motors has 15 assembly plants in China with its partners, while Ford has six and Fiat Chrysler has two. Ties between automakers, particularly FCA, and Italy, which has more than 77,000 cases and 12,000 deaths.
