Since we always get it first, just thought you'd all like to know what might be coming your way next...

Designated grocery shopping days by last name.

It's now a thing.

Instacart employees say they will strike beginning next Monday.

Parts of Africa are experiencing swarms of billions of locusts.  The expected crop failures will likely make the populace even more susceptible to COVID-19 when it arrives.

Stay safe where you are.

I predict:

That around January 1st, 2021, there will be a massive world-wide spike in human births.  This might be a good time to think about when and how you want to adjust your stock portfolio.

Why do I say this?  Young, strong (more or less attractive) people who would normally be occupying their days with some sort of toil at least 8 hours a day, are being forced to stay home together with not all that much to do.  Being denied all the casual social contacts they are accustomed to will make them rely even more heavily on the intimate relationships in their lives.

The human gestation period is about 280 days.  As of March 28, 280 days (40 weeks) would take us to January 2, 2021.

I predict.

Third-party contractor that does the actual shopping and delivering for grocery and other stores.  VERY big component in the home delivery system - at least here in California.  Not all that many stores maintain their own trucks and delivery personnel.

Wolfman

I remember reading The Andromeda Strain when I was younger. Now I feel like we're living it. Yikes!

I live in Michigan, and our state has really been hit hard with the virus. I think we're in the top five states right now, though the vast majority of the cases are centered in and around Detroit. Last week, the Governor issued a three week stay-at-home order statewide. It allows for essential business to remain open, so we can still get what we need, but it's lead to a lot of confusion over what constitutes 'essential.' I work at a manufacturing plant that has informed its workers that it intends to stay open because we are "essential." We're not, really, but that's their interpretation. We've even been in the local news because of their refusal to shut down. Last week, two employees were sent home with COVID 19 symptoms, and they didn't inform the employees on the floor. They've had dozens of complaints to the attorney general, and we're still waiting to see how that plays out.

Meanwhile, all the office workers are working from home, and it's caused a major us-versus-them mentality. We've got about four hundred employees on the floor here, and if one person gets it, probably everyone will. Many of the workers are in their fifties and sixties. Morale is pretty bad right now and a lot of people are panicking. I always knew that businesses cared more for profits than people, but apparently, this is news to a lot of workers and there's a lot of anger and resentment. Hopefully, they come to their senses pretty soon and start honoring the stay at home order. There's no reason we should be working right now.

It's a real mess as far as deciding what "must" stay open, what must close and who has the right to make the decision and force people to respect it.

One problem, is the fact that businesses are so interdependent.  Closing down a lot of small businesses means the vital ones lose their lines of supplies and means of shipment - or have open business who can receive those shipments.

It's all very confusing.

Whole states are deciding they rather not participate, thank you.

Thank you for that enlightening and useful information.

I do what I can! (Which is, admittedly, not much.)

We just got the first case in our county.

I hope he wasn't popular.

No, I don't hope he gets worse.  I just hope he didn't have a lot of friends he was keeping in close contact with, so it doesn't spread

Is this like having a disabled car for many of you?  Are you getting antsy and imagining all the places you suddenly want to go?  Even though, in reality, if the car was perfect you'd probably be staying home, anyway.?

I wonder how many out-of-work writers are sweating over manuscripts, and pouring over lists of prospective actors to feature in the made-for-TV specials that will come out of this whole situation?

Let's hope NOVA does it right.

I'm fine where I'm at! I've got a phone and a PC to keep in touch.

I run through WM a couple of times a week, for those things that won't keep long.
