Irony in this kit is unbelievable
« on: March 30, 2019, 12:33:34 PM »
So, I am gonna just let the irony of a new Titanic battery operated toy, being made by a manufacturer named "Atlantis" uhm..."sink in" for a minute. I know I shouldn't have laughed, but I couldn't help it.

It's a strange concept for a bathtub toy but if it makes more people aware of the actual disaster and its lessons, that counts as a good thing.

Back when he was a kid in the 1960's one of my collecting/trading buddies in Hamilton, Rick, built the huge Aurora USS Enterprise model and sent away for the battery-powered motor kit to turn the propeller. The motor worked great so he launched his lovingly built Enterprise for its maiden voyage across the pond on his family's property in Ancaster just outside of Hamilton. It got to about the middle of the pond and sunk to the bottom. There must have been a Soviet sub lurking in the pond. In any event, his Enterprise was lost with all hands and never seen again. Very sad.

Though a few years younger than me, Rick collected many of the same CFL and hockey cards, potato chip coins and other food premiums that I did as a kid. He also built many of the Aurora monster model kits and always coveted the Mad Mad Mad Scientist Laboratory that he saw advertised in Famous Monsters of Filmland magazine. He succeeded in scoring a really nice specimen of the Laboratory from a California dealer in the early years of this century but sold it about five years ago.
