I have been a KISS fan since 74". They have so many great Hard Rock songs under their belt in the early days. I have to admit by tje year 1981 hit I was no longer into that style of music getting a strong taste of both Death Metal and Black Metal.
Going back in the years ,the first time I saw KISS they were opening for some dumbass progrock band called Uriah Heep ::)
U.H became a fave  a few years later.

I have to admit that Dynasty was a BIG tour off and honestly I have rarely listened to any Kiss after 1980,So I guess I have to revisit alot of their later offerings. Ramble Ramble etc etc ::)

Damn, almost forgot this golden gem that I saw after a night of drugs an alcohol
. Back in the day there was NOTHING like a couple shots of vodka and a hit of Acid.  Zombie Alien

FINALLY got this video to attach. Watched this on TV when I was 15 and was totally blown on buzzables.

Honestly. I could not even scratch the surface on how many great KISS memories I have had or experienced. I have been a KISS fan since 1976.

Also there are so many KISS haters and music fans who literally
have a disdain for KISS and their music. Yet!!! Many have never
listened to KISS' music or maybe one song. Especially the Led
Zeppelin, Beatles and RUSH fanatics. Of which, I love all those
bands.....well, two of the them.

1981-KISS-Music for the Elder is released . When I first purchased that album......I was shocked. Well, after playing
The Oath. After that track, it was all downhill. The album
has since grown-on-me.

I saw their Dynasty tour, loved it. Some no-name called John "Cougar" Mellencamp opened for them. I thought he was a tosser, still do.

Here's my KISS memory.  I had a friend in 1st grade that was a fan, during our school Halloween party he brought one of the albums (I believe it was Destroyer) in and tried to get the old school marm to play it.  She was having no part in it, as I recall she mentioned something about the devil and what not.  As luck would have it I had my own Halloween party that year and Philippe brought along his KISS record, my parents had no problem slappin' it on the 'ol hi-fi for us kiddos.  Well I was less than impressed, it was okay but nothing you couldn't find on the rock radio station and I don't recall for sure but I had probably heard a few of their songs on the radio or from my older brother but much like this "first" listen they didn't really make an impression.  I did catch KISS Meets the Phantom of the Park which came out that very same year though but was never a fan.

We couldn't WAIT to see Kiss Meets the Phantom of the Park, but it was a disappointment at the time. Perhaps time has been kinder to it. I've read that Kiss staff is forbidden to even mention it.

It is curious that Kiss of all bands didn't release a concert film to theaters, or at least a docu-film along the lines of The Who's Kids Are Alright. I'm convinced it would've stood the test of time with the best of them.

In my opinion, I feel KISS' music was not like other Rock Radio bands. Certainly KISS did not sound like Aerosmith, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple or Foreigner. Although KISS' music is and
was not altogether original. Their music was not completely derivative, albeit Paul and Gene did borrow certain things from their music idols. Gene Simmons was heavily influenced by Paul
McCartney.

KISS' music was always overshadowed by their image/aesthetic, and Contemporaries. All of KISS' studio albums sound different. Especially the album-Hotter Than Hell (1974). Probaby their heaviest and more complex, musically. Unfortunately, KISS' music became more Pop-Rock.

I guess I will never understand why KISS received little or no praise as their Contemporaries continually receive.

With apologies to Ace Frehley--a guitar god if there ever was one--they're largely perceived as entertainers rather than artists. I can agree sometimes, but then I believe many naysayers have not given their music a good listen.  Hotter Than Hell is an excellent case in point. I'll take Kiss over Aerosmith & Foreigner any day.

Great topic!!!

I'm a huge Kiss fan---I think you guys know that by now. Over the yrs I've posted alotta pics of my Kiss collectibles. Black Sabbath will always be favorite band, but Kiss is a close second.

In terms of memories, I'll mention my top three:
1) My dad taking me to see Kiss at the Pontiac Silverdome, 1979. I was 4 yrs old and painted my face like the Catman.

2) 1982 10 Anniversary Tour with the Fox and Egyptian in makeup! Saw this show in Detroit. We moved to California not long after and had tickets for the San Diego show but it was canceled. To this day I love SoCal but NO other city gets Kiss like the Motor City.

3) Many years later I was living in the D again and went to the 1996 Reunion concert at Tiger Stadium. F*#&"ng Epic!!

Thanks buddy! Did you ever see Tom Morello's induction speech for Kiss into the RnR hall of fame? It was great. Btw: my brother was going through some  stuff in the basement and he found my old Kiss backpack from early 80s. He says it's in great condition too. Once I get my hands on it I'll post pictures on UMA.

Geezer. I did watch the entire KISS induction. Those pricks at the
the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame can eat s***!
Awesome! Please post! I have so much vintage KISS merch. One day I need to post.

My big Brother taking me to see Kiss with backing group "New England" on August 4, 1979 at Maple Leaf Gardens (Toronto, Ontario Canada) Gene Simmons blew my mind, while during his solo he disappeared down into the stage and moments later the spotlights picked him out in the rafters, way way way up, without missing a note.

I consider this to be my first official Rock Concert though I did see "Lighthouse" when they opened for Evel Knievel back on August 20, 1974 (I was Eight) at the old Exhibition Stadium (Toronto, Ontario )

I take it you heard as Gene was introducing Ace someone shouted out " He's a F'N LEGEND. And he his Go Space Ace Go!

And one thing I really enjoy about this little vid is that the back up players which are maybe half of Gene and Aces age are smiling and are totally pumped to be playing with 2 Rock Legends. What a rush!
