Solo: A Star Wars Story Review (Spoiler Free)

I went to see this today. I thought it was a really fantastic movie. The first movie I ever saw in a movie theater (when I was a very little kid) was Return of the Jedi. I felt like I could have watched Solo back in the mid 80's and it wouldn't have felt out of place. In ranking all the Star Wars films I'd place it right there with the first 3 (i.e. 1977-1983). I thought it was by far the best Star Wars film since the first 3.

Maybe I thought it was so great because I had very low expectations. Maybe I just liked that I didn't have to roll my eyes over and over (or at all). I had a bad feeling about this movie because I thought they couldn't pull off the persona of Han or Lando, but I think they absolutely did. I had no difficulty buying into every character in the film and the plot as a whole. I really enjoyed this movie. I see the box office receipts are underwhelming and that's unfortunate because it may scare some away who would otherwise really enjoy the movie and may also scare Disney from making additional movies about Solo (because they totally could - and I'm not a fan of sequel's generally).

I will say this in conclusion. I would actually watch this again. Maybe even see it in a theatre again (quite a feat considering I've seen maybe 10 movies in a theatre in the past 15 years).  There are very few movies made since 1990 that I can say that about. I think it's worth a watch if you have any interest in Star Wars.

it's one of my top 5 Star Wars movies. But then again I saw the first Star Wars movie in high school, so I appreciate more than the low rating the younger people give it.

I found this to be a fun, fast-paced film that added a bit more to the STAR WARS mythos, without getting too bogged down in all its' continuity. Well worth a look! :)
