I was kind of assuming the rights had lapsed, since they did an Ultimates Metaluna Mutant Ultimates figure that apparently won't have This Island Earth branding either.

Wow. So some lawyer someplace was asleep at the wheel, and now....is he public domain or did someone else register him after the lapse? Interesting. I wonder if Universal even cares?

According to the Target website, it's out of stock in stores and not available to ship.

So I expect to see them on ebay for $100 or more.

S7 says it's a Target exclusive, which makes sense.

I searched "Glow Metaluna Mutant" in a google search and looked for the alt glow paint scheme this one has compared to the other..

If these are like the Target ex  carded Neca monsters they should be easy to find.

I'll be in the vicinity of my local Target tomorrow and will check for it, but I doubt I'll find it. 

I miss the old days when stores used to get exclusives and they had so many they'd stick them in the 50% off bins in a couple of months.

Am I the only one wondering what went down at Universal? How does a mega corporation "forget" to renew a character?  It strikes me as very odd. Especially since the character has appeared on glasses, a lunchbox,  Emce figures, DST figures, and even the Funko retro figures. Or was there something other than corporate oversight in play?

I've never heard any "official" answer on this matter.  Kind of speculative as to what happened.  We may never find out the real answer here.
