Remember this Stuff? ;D I had this as a kid. Found one a couple months back, still in the package. Actually, there were 2 sellers selling them. One seller wanted over $1000 for it, the other seller like $20. Yes you read those prices right. Guess which one I bought? ;D

I put it in a zip lock bag to further protect it.

I wonder how this stuff was 1st discovered.

Is it the byproduct of some other process?

Like "Special Darks" are just burnt pretzels they used to throw out—but now sell as a variant?

I think they were developing a secret rocket fuel.

I would say a mad scientist in the Wham-O lab had an idea to create a fun, versatile play thing. Which ended up having a really unique smell. Even though this is 50 years old, I bet if I took it out and added water, if would be like it was brand new.

I think it's more likely that someone was developing secret rocket fuel and this sludge was a remnant than it is that the geniuses at Wham-o set out to make this crap from square one.  😁

I say that if you were to add water to 50-year old Super Stuff, it's a good bet that within a few days it would be the size of a city bus and that the fire dept. will be spraying it with extinguishers as it was devouring a diner.

I say "do it."  😎

Super Stuff was clearly designed by Wham-O to compete with Silly Putty.

Quote from: WikipediaIt(Silly Putty) was originally created during research into potential rubber substitutes for use by the United States in World War II.

Silly Putty first hit the market in 1949 and sales took off later that year when marketing whiz Peter C.L. Hodgson decided to package one ounce portions in plastic eggs priced at one dollar.

Was this at a toy show or just a flea market?

Ebay, a seller had a few to sell and was selling them for around $20. Prior to that, there was another selller who had one listed for over $1000. Both listings were up at the same time. I decided $20 was more reasonable.

Great idea! If I do, I'll try to film the whole thing. ;D

And if you can only film HALF the thing (because you're being consumed by the creature), do what's right and throw your camera to a bystander who can preserve your material.  We'll honor you posthumously.😀

No way, I'll go down with the ship holding the camera, you'll see every bit from a first person perspective. ;D Like if Quint from Jaws was holding the camera while be eaten by the shark. ;D

Bless you. Just don't let the film get eaten.😎

I've always thought that's how "Crunchy" Cheetos were invented.  They look like some Cheetos that failed to "Puff" in the fryer - and some of the guys in the factory tried them and said, "Hey, I like the rejects even better!"

Remember this Stuff?...

They didn't have that when I was a kid in the 1950's.

Too bad, I would have LOVED experimenting with that stuff!

(I suspect my parents would have been somewhat less enthusiastic about cleaning up the residue.)

Ooh, that is dated 1967.  It came out just in time for the big High Pile Carpet craze.  For those of you who don't remember "Shag" carpet, it vaguely resembled an unmown lawn.  The pile was so long that you left tracks every time walked across it - like prints in a fresh snow.  People who had one, kept a special carpet rake to fluff the carpet back up and erase the tracks, and had to use it often.  A real Pain.

The fluffed up carpet was so high that door bottoms had to be trimmed to allow them to clear it.  If you live in an older house with puzzling huge spaces under all the doors, it probably had High Pile Carpet back in the 1970's.

Those carpets would have been great traps for "Super Stuff".
