Saturday night:

The Phantom of the Opera 1943.

Sometimes, when I look at this film (and it isn't that often), I can't help but wonder if Arthur Lubin actually knew what a horror film was, and what it should contain. The horror element is not only weak, but almost nonexistent.

David Collins: "Dead people dont just get up and walk around.."

Sarah Collins: "Sometimes they do."

MURDER IN THE BLUE ROOM (1944) at YouTube

2nd remake of "Secrets of the Blue Room" is inferior, but entertaining enough, if you FF >> through the mediocre musical numbers. Same basic plot as "Secrets", with people going missing from the title room of the, supposedly, haunted estate. Some witty dialog, probably by frequent Billy Wilder collaborator I.A.L. Diamond (his 1st co-screenplay).

Anne Gwynne, Donald Cook and John Litel head the cast, with Ian Wolfe doing the butler thing, again.

This video has the image stretched, but has a much better picture than the other one.
