I've been on a Batman kick for about a month now; but now, I'm back in my normal state again. Better yet, to quote Ygor: "Now he's alright again."

This evening:

Dracula 1931 Blu-ray

Back to the beginning of Sound Horror. There's nothing like old school.

Absolutely true!

Does watching Cult of the Cobra on Svengoolie count?

Absolutely! That is one great film. It reminds me of a feature length Twilight Zone episode.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde (1913) with King Baggot.  Universal's very first horror themed film.

Wednesday night:

An encore showing of Dracula 1931; followed by Frankenstein 1931.

I find that just one dose of Universal Horror in an evening is not enough. A double bill works better.

No "Dracula's Daughter"? That would be a perfect chaser to "Dracula".

I have such conflicted feelings about that one. I love how it is a direct sequel to Dracula and how it deals with "real" ramifications of the events of the first film. But the main story? Not the best, IMHO.

I usually follow Dracula with the sequel (when I'm viewing sequels). Most of the time; I run the films in succession, or by their year of release. That way, I will usually view some of the films that I would normally overlook.  However, there are times when I'll view all eight Frankenstein films in succession (over a two day span), or maybe the Mummy Saga & Dracula film as well.

I don't mind saying this though: I lose interest in Horror films after the Creature films. I do like the Hammer Dracula & Frankenstein films; but the Frankenstein designs aren't really to my liking. I view the films because of the "top notch" acting of Peter Cushing and Sir Christopher Lee.

With Mr. Lee's passing; it seems as thought there are no more Horror Film Icons left! At least not the ones that I've loved all through life. They're all gone now: Lugosi, Karloff, Lorre, Rathbone, Price, Chaney Sr., Chaney Jr., Cushing and now Sir Christopher Lee. I know that I'm old now.

When I heard of Christopher Lee's death; the first bit of dialogue that came to my mind was from Finlay Currie in Ben Hur. As Balthazar; he stands at the foot of Christ's cross and sobs: I've lived too long.

Thursday night:

Murders in the Rue Morgue 1932.
The Mask of Fu Manchu 1932 M.G.M.

Wishing you all (who celebrate it) a safe & sane 4th of July holiday weekend. Don't howl at the Moon too long!
