Tower of London (not bad - Boris, Vincent, and Basil)

Early this morning:

The Ghost of Frankenstein 1942.

Great Cast, but the real showstopper is Salter's score. While this film marks the "beginning of the downhill progression" for the Frankenstein Series; it did provide the "surefire" solution to destroy the Monster -- by dissection. Every other "genius" the Monster would encounter throughout the final four Films, would not have enough brains to even think of it!

I just watched it too and found it to be the last worthwhile performance of the monster. I thought Chaney Jr. did a decent job of filling some pretty big shoes (pun intended). Bela followed him with the worst performance (though not his fault). Then Strange came in looking great, but not really doing anything except stumbling around and dying in the last 5 minutes.

In The Ghost of Frankenstein -- the continuity kind of falls off the table a bit. What I mean is the Writer and Director kind of screw it up a great deal. Chaney's Monster is a complete BULLY to his "friend" Ygor. In fact, he almost crushes him between the door and wall! Quite a different contrast to the Monster's behavior in Son of Frankenstein. I guess Kenton and Darling didn't see Son of Frankenstein. Either that, or they were too proud to view it before starting their endeavor.

I don't blame Chaney -- I blame Kenton and W. Scott Darling. Kenton should have stayed on that Island that he directed Bud and Lou in Pardon my Sarong 1942. The Monster wanting the brain of a child -- and a little girl a that? That's a pretty ludacris storyline.

Glenn Strange was the "best looking Monster post Karloff." Again - the Writers didn't give him anything to do, and the director was too fast paced to do anything about it. I believe Kenton directed sitting on a stop watch instead of a directorial chair.  At least Barton gave him something to do in Bud Abbott and Lou Costello meet Frankenstein. Glenn does more in ACMF than he did in the two previous outings combined.

I loved Frankenstein meets the Wolf Man when I was a kid. As we get older we find out about the problems during production etc. Unfortunately, we not only smell the rubbish, but we see it as well. Lets face it -- you can probably pick any film apart if you look at it "too closely".

Earlier today:

The Wolf Man 1941 - I always view this after The Ghost of Frankenstein so that FMTW works a lot better. After all, it is a sequel to both The Wolf Man and The Ghost of Frankenstein. I ALWAYS watch them in order.

Frankenstein Meets The Wolf Man 1943.

Mord

Great minds.....I do the exact same thing. They flow perfectly.

Hmmmm...must be because it's filmed in color and lacks Pat Preist.  Other than that...it pretty much is the tv show.  Now Munsters Revenge is a whole other story.
