After consuming 30 or so Classics in matter of a few weeks, I finally came across one I did not like, Climax. Sure, there have been a handful of films that were on the lackluster side, but Climax, for lack of a better word, just sucked, imo. I don't even feel like going into specifics as to why, I'd rather just forget it exists and move on!

Night Key, on the other hand, was excellent. Karloff never ceases to amaze me with his acting range. While his Monster and "mad scientist" roles are iconic, it's parts like David Mallory that really show how significant an actor he really was. The more films of his I watch, good or bad, the more resepct I gain for the man.

I think most of us here agree about "Climax". "Night Key" was great, though.

The classic Halloween marathon has begun! So far it's been The Wolfman, Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman, House of Frankenstein and House of Dracula. As well as Hammer's The Mummy, Horror of Dracula and The Satanic Rites of Dracula. Oh, and The Monster Squad!

Man Made Monster, Black Cat (1941), and Captive Wild Woman.

Afterward, feeling unsatisfied, I felt like revisiting the good Black Cat. As I suspected, while rewatching it the first time, Ulmer is a genius. This realization led me down a  slight "Detour" with "The Strange Woman" and now I'm hellbent on watching the rest of his works, as well as getting back into some Noir stuff.

I knew I shouldn't have deviated from the path! I was reading an essay on The Black Cat and they mentioned Detour and Bluebeard... I told my wife, "You know how flighty I am! If Detour winds up being awesome (and it was) I'll be busting out the Bogart and that will lead us back to Hitchcock and then the 70's, and then... it'll be anarchy!"

*sigh* Too many good movies, so little time.

We need 36 hour days!  ;D

Watched Detour like 3 more times and Bluebeard twice. I enjoyed Bluebeard, but both copies were of such dismal quality, I really couldn't get into it. Of course the Detour wasn't much better, but I could have watched that on a 9" analog television in the middle of the thunderstom and still loved every minute. I'm gonna watch Strange Illusion and Ruthless tonight, then Man From Planet X and a few other over the weekend, then it's back to straight uop "horror". I'm not going down the noir road until after Halloween!
