I remember being underwhelmed the first time I watched Frankenstein. I guess I just needed the right atmosphere to enjoy it properly. And I've always loved Bride of Frankenstein.

That's how I felt about "Dracula". Now, all the slow, quite moments work to good effect.

"Listen to them; the children of the night.  What music they make!"  Dracula

DARK SHADOWS:

Sarah Collins: "Sometimes they do."

Phantom Stranger

Last Saturday:

"The Thing That Couldn't Die" (1958)

Plot: IMDB
A psychically gifted young woman discovers a centuries-old crate buried on her aunt's ranch. Opening it, her family discovers the living head of Gideon Drew, a 16th century devil worshiper who was beheaded by Sir Francis Drake.

Phantom's Review: Schlock, wonderful schlock. I think more than any other genre, horror has more goofy, schlock movies, and this is a prime example. The basic plot is okay, but the acting is wooden, the special FX aren't...well..special and there are absolutely no good scare scenes and the ending is very anti climatic. The music is borrowed from other Universal films (listen for the "Creature From The Black Lagoon " theme) This is definitely not one of Universals classics, or near classic for that matter. A great film for Bad Movie Night, but not good for anything else.

Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein(1948)..last night.

I usually watch 1-2 a month. More in October as well. They are about an hour each and easy to pair as a double feature. Otherwise, I enjoy 60's and 70's horror, 60's and 70's Euro horror, some 80's as well. Few of the newer ones most notably "30 Days of Night".

The next Netflix movie coming in is "Count Dracula" with Chris Lee. This is a non Hammer film that I have not seen yet, but looks like my kind of movie, we'll see. Anyone else seen it?

30 Days of Night is pretty cool! At least the vampires dont sparkle :) When my my prim & proper niece suddenly thought she wanted to be a vampire (the Twilight Effect) I gave her 30 Days and said, "Here, watch this!"  Scared her straight!

The Count Dracula you speak of is a Jesse Franco movie. One of his more coherent ones :) Its pretty good, I liked it enough to purchase it on DVD and watched it a few times:D

I watched Bride of Frankenstein about a month ago when it was on TCM. Last Halloween,I watched all of the 'Creature..." films before Hurricane Sandy put a quick ending to my Halloween fun. Didn't have power for almost 3 weeks. :( But at least... I'm Alive! I'M ALIVE! :)

Frankenstien (1931) Last nite..

Shame, shame tidroplane -- misspelling "Frankenstein" is not allowed on UMA. You must now submit to corrective brain surgery by the good doctor and his trusty assistant Igor...  :o

OK Mord, you and tidroplane will get the UMA discount for multiple brain surgeries! In fact, Dr. Mornay is prepping for the operations now...
