Last Night:

"The Invisible Man" (1933)
                              -Claude Rains

Plot: IMDB
A scientist turns himself invisible. However, the formula slowly drives him insane, causing him to terrorize the countryside as an invisible killer.

Phantom's Review: One of Universals Great horror films. Claude Rains excellent performance highlights this classic. The story sticks close to the original novel and the FX are still brilliant to watch, even after 78 years. The only complaint I have is that the actor who plays Dr. Kemp is a little wooden in his performance. Other, than that, this film is great and belongs in every classic horror fans collection.

Today:
It's a dark and rainy day and it's October....perfect day for a horror classic:

"Son Of Dracula" (1943)
                       -Lon Chaney jr

Plot: IMDB
Count Alucard finds his way from Budapest to the swamps of the Deep South after meeting Katherine Caldwell, of the moneyed Caldwell clan that runs a plantation called Dark Oaks. She's obsessed with occult matters. Who better to guide her through this supernatural world than Count Alucard, whose name no one bothers to spell backwards? No one, that is, except the wily Dr. Brewster, an old family friend. He'll join Professor Lazlo, a specialist in the occult, in fighting this "Alucard" and the woman he's influenced. Or has Katherine influenced him? Meanwhile, Katherine's fiancé, Frank Stanley, will find his courage and his sanity sorely tested when he accidentally shoots Katherine to death, yet finds that she goes on living.

Phantom's Review: Probably my favorite among the Universal Dracula sequels. Clever script. very atmospheric and stylish. Very much like a film noir.
Chaney Jr does a fine job as the title character and all the supporting players are quite good. One of the greats.

Frankenstein Meets the Wolfman.  I've seen it before but not in some time.  I enjoyed the movie.  I thought it was a well produced film.  Bela was okay as the monster.  I liked how the script blended the Wolfman film with the Universal Frankenstein mythology.  I like it more than Ghost.  Good movie with a quick pace and I think effective for the type of film it is.  The other crossovers are either juvenile or played for laughs.  The tone is serious enough for it to work for me.

- The Mummy (1932)

Karloff delivers a creepy performance with some great dialogue. My sig line has my favorite. Once again, Van Sloan is a great foil for the monsters.
