"Bride of Frankenstein" - I hadn't watched it in a month or two & I was starting to crave it again.

Son of Frankenstein 1939

The Monster is called Frankenstein twice in this film. Once on the train by the Conductor (as he announces the Village), and Krogh tells Wolf: "Hence the local superstition of the murdering ghost, need I add that it is always alluded to as Frankenstein."

This film also aroused my curiosity by making reference to the "charts, Diary, and secret formulas" of Heinrich Frankenstein. However, Rowland V. Lee and Willis Cooper did not offer a glimpse of it. Instead, I got to hear Henry's letter to Wolf, along with some of the content that would comprise Wolf's Diary. I was content with that.

Too bad that Clive had passed on by the time they made Son of Frankenstein. I think it would have been so awesome to hear Clive's voice reading that letter to hia Son! We did get that wonderful painting of him though.

Mord

I was going to mention that painting if you didn't, Anthony. It was a nice way of keeping Clive "alive" in a way (wonder if that painting still exists).

Hello Mord,

It is my understanding that the painting is in a private collection. I read that somewhere, but I can't remember if it was the Original Shooting Script, or the book "Classics Of The Horror Film" by William K. Everson. I'll let you know the source of the story.

This morning:

The Ghost of Frankenstein 1942 - A Diary is seen for the first time. The "Notes and Memoranda" of Wolf is also shown. Here's another thing -- in the film, Elsa reads her Grandfathers Diary. We don't see her read Wolf's....and that is the Diary that would contain info on Ygor. Yet when Ludwig enters the study - Elsa calls "that strange man that left the house earlier by his name - Ygor!"

I wanted to post this pic in my last post. I haven't figured out how to insert more than one pic in a post. Here's to the second Son of Frankenstein:

Earlier today:

House of Frankenstein 1944. The title of the Diary has changed to - "Experiments in Life and Death by Henry Frankenstein." In FMTW, Roy William Neil only showed me a "dust covered book!" However, Dr. Mannering does read some "new content." Although I must say -- it sounds as though he's talking a an Everready Battery, instead of the Monster. Talbot holds it up and reads - "The Secret of Life and Death." All my life, I've been hoping and praying that Talbot is reading the title verbatim. Instead of one looking at a book of "Tom Sawyer" and saying Huck Finn.

You inspired me to re-watch "Ghost of Frankenstein". Chaney Jr. does a decent job as the monster.

My first exposure to the Universal Frankenstein films and still my favorite. :)

Sunday:

House of Dracula 1945 - no Diary in sight, nor do I hear a mention of it. A friend of mine states that Edlemann is reading it in his study. I don't see it. I only see him with a book in his hands twice -- and he's sleeping in a chair both times.

1. The beginning of the film - as Dracula enter his study. The book in his hands looks more like Medical Textbook in stead of a diary.
2. After the "mirror effect" with Carradine & O'Driscoll. Nina runs up to tell Edlemann that she could not see the reflection of Baron Latos.

Sunday night:

Bud Abbott and Lou Costello meet Frankenstein 1948
The appears once again, and the written page is the same one in The Ghost of Frankenstein 1942

From Bud Abbott and Lou Caostello meet Frankenstein 1948:
I still remember how thrilled I was when I first viewed the film, and saw this page -- for it is the same as in The Ghost of Frankestein 1942. While the Diary had a new "dustcover," the pages remained the same.
