Last night, I watched The Black Cat (1941).  Not bad ... Bela Lugosi played a challenging role in this, since he was kinda creepy but actually was not a bad guy and got himself shot for his trouble.  Basil Rathbone was quite good too.

I liked the 1934 Black Cat much more though.

As a side note, I watched Scarface (1932) yesterday as well.  I did not realize Boris Karloff was in it -- as Gaffney, the north side Chicago gangster leader.  Fun movie ... if you're not Tony Camonte.  :-)

Just finished "Revenge of the Creature" from MST3K Vol. XXV.

Abbot and Costello Meet the Mummy this afternoon with my kids. First time any of us had seen it in it's entirety. Pretty good!

Showed Frankenstein (1931) to my girlfriend this weekend. She liked it, but I'm finding that she really isn't that crazy about monster movies.... >:(

Rich

Frankenstein certainly is a good start. She will come around.
Listen to them. Children of the Night. What music they make!

I pray so! I showed her Dracula a few months before that and she did not like it at all! That really pained me, since Dracula will ALWAYS be my number 1.

^Admittedly, Dracula's slow pace and rather boring cinematography are hard to swallow for casual viewers nowadays. My son loves the Universal Monster films, but he has the hardest time with Dracula when Lugosi isn't on screen. I'm kind of with him, honestly. I love it, but I look past the plodding pace and all the drawing room stuff.

Maybe try her out on The Wolf Man. Hard for folks not to get into that one and care for poor ol' Larry.

Good idea. I'll show her the Wolf Man next. We also watched Nosferatu (I know, not Universal) this weekend and she seemed to like that alot more than Dracula.

Watched the phantom of the opera (silent with lon cheney) last weekend with my kids. They really liked it and could hardly wait for him to take off thr mask.

Watched the silent version of "cat and the canary" last night. Not sure if that was iniversal but wow what a fun flick. I love the cat creature's bulging eye.

Watched Horror Island (1941) last night.  Kind of a hokey set up to get everyone to the island, but it was an entertaining flick.
