Great price! I'm a big fan of "Revenge of Frankenstein". That's worth the 8 bucks alone.

Well crap! Here's a major disappointment I just noticed!

"When sold by Amazon.com, this product is manufactured on demand using BD-R recordable media. Amazon.com's standard return policy will apply."

Does that mean if I buy it somewhere else that it won't be a BD-R?

Looks like it's a MOD elsewhere. Drat!

The Year of Naschy On Blu-ray Begins!

Scream Factory has set a June 20 release date for their "The Paul Naschy Collection", a 5-disc Blu-ray collection of horror classics from the legendary King of Spanish Horror. Title in this initial collection  include VENGEANCE OF THE ZOMBIES, HORROR RISES FROM THE TOMB, BLUE EYES OF THE BROKEN DOLL (aka HOUSE OF PSYCHOTIC WOMEN), NIGHT OF THE WEREWOLF (aka THE CRAVING) and HUMAN BEASTS. All the films will be remastered in HD and include both English and Spanish tracks. And if you're not on message boards and Facebook 24 hours of day, you may not have heard that Code Red has announced three highly desirable Naschy monster titles on Blu-ray: THE MUMMY'S REVENGE, THE FURY OF THE WOLFMAN, ASSIGNMENT TERROR. These will be new HD transfers of the films with the elements coming from the Spanish licensor (the street dates on these TBA). And last but not least, Mondo Macabro will release the Naschy favorites EL CAMINANTE and INQUISITION for some time in early 2017. Yes, "The Year of Naschy" on Blu-ray is certainly upon us!

Looks like Dracula and The Mummy are next in line for the legacy blu-ray collections. Amazon's release date is May 16th.

Mord

That release date leads me to think we will be getting some more by Halloween.  Maybe even a boxed set for Christmas. Hey, a fella can dream, right?

Haha...I was just thinking about this about a week ago.  Dracula seemed like the obvious next Blu-ray set to release, and I figured that to tie in with the new Tom Cruise re-boot which is going to be released this summer, that The Mummy movies would probably be the other Classic Monster set released.  I really think the main reason these are being released in May (as opposed to a year wait from the Frankenstein/Wolf Man films) is to cash in on the Tom Cruise flick, but I am glad that it results in these releases not being spaced out too far apart from each other.

Just heard that on May 16th Universal is releasing the Dracula and Mummy legacy sets on Blu Ray. I guess Frankenstein and Wolfman legacy sets sold well enough to keep going. I just hope they don't pull that crap on these sets like they did on the Wolfman set on Werewolf of London and She Wolf of London. They just cleaned those 2 up because they were "lesser" films. Hey, I paid for a Blu Ray set and expect to get it not just a cleaned up copy. I have a feeling they might pull this on Draculas' Daughter. Let's hope they do the right thing.
Sorry, I'm a little confused... I didn't purchase the recent Blu-Ray release of The Wolf Man box set.  What is the difference between the cleaned up versions of Werewolf of London/She Wolf of London and the other films in the set?  Am I correct in assuming that the other films were digitally restored from the original source, but the ...London flicks were not?

Me too, man!

It sure took long enough. It seemed like everything else was hitting Blu, even crap like Manos, The Hands Of Fate , but we were in a Naschy drought. Now, finally we're getting some real Naschy action this year after the two Naschy BDs last year whet our appetites (Count Dracula's Great Love being a great release, and Crimson with a very good release of one of Naschy's weakest entries). I just hope Code Red found the missing scenes from The Mummy's Revenge and Assignment Terror. That would really ice the cake.

Naschy's known as "the Spanish Lon Chaney (Jr.)", but as much as I respect and enjoy Chaney that isn't really accurate. Naschy did it all! Jacinto Molina Alvarez began as a screenwriter before Paul Naschy was even created. Then he went on to write, star in, and later direct, several of the best Eurohorror films in history, as well as European Cinema in other genres. Naschy's contributions to film should be celebrated and enjoyed.  :)
