I still have my original kid copy that surprisingly enough would be in high grade except for one page that I colored. I have no idea how it escaped the ravages of kidhood but I'm glad it did.

As great a movie as The Valley Of Gwangi is you would think there would be a lot of merch, but I don't know of anything besides the comic and coloring book. And, of course, there's the movie posters and lobby cards to collect. BTW, the new Blu-ray from Warner is great!

It's a beautiful poster, but it looks like the artist took the old "size matters" cliché a bit too far.

Warren published the above magazine based on what was perhaps the greatest double bill to ever hit the silver screen:



I actually saw the above double bill at the Capitol Theatre (or maybe the Loews) in downtown London with a buddy of mine some time in 1961(?). My buddy was so frightened by the events on the screen that he actually closed his eyes during the graveyard scene in the Dracula movie. I was made of sterner stuff but these movies were like none I'd seen before and left a profound mark on my impressionable young mind.

Me too, Count Z! Pot-Bellied T-Rexes were replaced by the Sleek or "Skinny" T-Rexes in the '60s.

The original Pot-Bellies were patterned after the work of Rudolf Zallinger. This is a portion of the famous Zallinger mural:



The Pot-Bellied T-Rexes were part of the phased-out Large Mold Group (PL-749). They are not nearly as plentiful as the newer Sleek T-Rexes from the Revised Mold Group. I still have a Marx Pot-Belly I bought as a kid from a dime store bin loose. It still has "10 cents" stamped on the belly. That's one of my favorite Marx dinos.

That's because people started to become more health and fitness conscious in the sixties. Men started replacing their pot bellies with six packs. The first Mr. Olympia contest was held 18 September 1965 at the Brooklyn Academy of Music in New York City. When Larry Scott with his washboard abs walked away with the title, it was a wake up call to T. Rexes everywhere. Which is probably why the T. Rexes we've been seeing in the past thirty years aren't dragging their tails around. They now have the vim and vigour to lift their tails off the ground!

Here from the collection of Monsterscud is a carded set of skeleton hands:



There was a penny gumball machine outside of Ken's Variety on Wharncliffe Road in London back in the sixties offering a similar if not identical set of skeleton hands to whoever got a little chrome ball instead of a gumball out of the machine. I was never lucky enough to get the skeleton hands. There's been a void in my life ever since.
