The Omen Television Series

I looked to see if anyone else stated a thread on this, but didn't see anything. Sorry if I missed it.

The Omen one of my all time favorite horror films so I give the series a shot.

 Same here, I love the original Omen. It's amazing how many new shows are based on horror movies (Bates' Motel, Hannibal, Dusk till Dawn, Scream).

Is it a sequel to the '76 original or the 2006 remake, I wonder? Or will they tap dance around that issue and just get on with it?

My understanding is the show is a sequel to the original story---so I guess you could consider that either the original or the remake. Either way, the show does not acknowledge the Omen sequels.

I think that's a good thing. The sequels were ok, but I'd rather the series go in a different direction.

Did anyone else watch "Damien" the other night? I liked it and will give it a chance.

I do have some criticisms though. I think they showed too much. They pretty much recycled a lot of the main plots from original film. I think they should have gone with the Bates Motel approach. I really like the pace of BM. You really get to see Norman's descent into madness in a realistic timeline---it doesn't happen at once. In fact, during season one, Norman was actually sympathetic at times. If Bates Motel, however, took the "Damien" approach, Norman would have put on makeup and a dress and started slashing away in the pilot episode. But they didn't do that and I think that was smart. I think "Damien" should have eased into the story.

Here's another example of rushing things I think:
(Spoiler alert) "Damien" introduces two interesting characters in the female journalist and professor guy, only to kill them both off. Why not let the audience get invested in them, then whack 'em out later? Otherwise you pretty much don't care that these characters were killed. 

So anyhow, I'm critical but because I'm a big fan of the overall concept, I'll give it some time.

 Though I agree with the criticism, I liked it. They really worked hard to tie it in with the original movie (flashback footage, devil dogs, chant music). They are trying too hard to make Damien a sympathetic victim. In the movie, he was born evil with no remorse. Here, they seem to be going for a likeable "Dexter" vibe. I guess it's hard to sell the Anti-Christ as protagonist to middle America.

That seems to be the way it is in alot of horror nowadays. Whereas years ago, the monster/killer was evil and we couldn't wait to see him killed, nowadays he's likeable and we cheer him on. Alot has changed since 1970's horror. I haven't seen this show, as I do not do cable TV anymore, but before I got rid of it I saw enough new TV horror stuff that I found it disturbing to see the direction things were heading in. I prefer the old formula - people are good, monsters are bad, but obviously nowadays alot of folks like the opposite.
