Dick Briefer's Frankenstein comics.
« on: January 06, 2016, 06:50:53 PM »
I've been considering picking up the Roy Thomas Presents volumes of the Dick Briefer Frankenstein stories.  I'm especially interested in them since it switches from pure pre-code horror, to a near Disney all ages stories, and back to horror again.  They seem like fun!

Has anyone read them?

I have several PS Artbooks titles as well as Chilling Archives of Horror books and find most of them to be a great addition to any Pre-code horror collection.
The only Frankenstein stories I have read are from a B/W collection put out a few years ago. Those were pretty well written and had some very violent scenes.

The Chilling Frank series are much less $ than PS,but PS has about the same page count on average but more volumes available. Personally I don't care at all for the funny Frank but to each their own. If you pick up some of these up,chime back in with an overview.

This will give you a good overview of the character.

I just bought volume 3-8 from Half Price Boos in Kansas City for about $10 each. I looked all over the store for vol. 1 and 2, but those have not been released yet due to missing stories that are being tracked down.

Most of the stories are available on line too. I use this site to read a lot of golden age books:

Both publishers of Briefer's Frankenstein are represented with a complete run of the Prize books available.

I just picked up volume 1 and 2 at my local comic book store. They were paperback copies, unlike the other hardback volumes previously released.

Yeah, I saw the paperbacks.  I don't know what's going on there.  I don't think I want to buy them unless they match the other 6 I already have.  But at the same time, who knows if they'll ever get that release.

I really REALLY hope so.

After waiting all these years, I decided not to wait any longer. Sure, it looks dumb on my shelf but I don't know if they sold well enough to get the hardback release they deserve.
