Rotting Corpse

I often feel alone in liking the TCM remake the best. I know that opinion is highly controversial. I respect the original but the remake for me is far more entertaining.

Rotting Corpse

Does Jurassic Park count as Horror? I think in a way they do, kinda blurs the line between Sci-Fi/Adventure/Horror. In any case I think the original is the best by miles.

Rotting Corpse

Good call on The Thing as well. It's eligible with the 1951 original, the 1982 remake and 2011 prequel. John Carpenter's 1982 remake is definitely the best and one of my favorite films of any genre, Horror or otherwise. My personal favorite of Carpenter's filmography as well, which is no small feat given his lengthly and mostly excellent body of work.

Also interesting to note Carpenter considers it part of his "Apocalypse Trilogy," which also includes Prince Of Darkness and In The Mouth Of Madness. In any event, The Thing is easily my favorite of these three.

Mike...In 3-D!

[REC] 3: Genesis is the best of the [REC] series, in my opinion.
"Naughty, naughty! Don't touch, Butch knows best."

Rotting Corpse

I've seen the first two REC films along with Quarantine (the 2008 remake of REC). I enjoyed them all, but haven't seen the others. REC 2 might be my favorite of the ones I've seen so far.

Monsters For Sale

Not a fan of all of the Series listed.  Don't care for things like "Hellraiser", "Hostel" and "Saw", etc.  I find such films a chore to watch.

But, for most the ones I do like, I prefer the first in the sagas about 99% of the time.  Most of the time, I do not bother owning the sequels or remakes.  Of course there are a few exceptions - I'm not a fanatic about it.  (And, some sequel/remakes are unusually good.)

With all the talent and original imagination in the world, there must be some great ideas out there that we will never get to see because the people with money won't gamble on a new concept.

They gamble on Commodity Futures every day but can't see it's the first chapter in a fresh new series, starring relatively inexpensive unknown actors, that often scores biggest at the box office - then gets remade and imitated all to hell.

Whatever happened to the Producer/Director who takes out a 2nd mortgage on his home to be able to do something so new that no studio will back him - like Hitchcock with "Psycho".  I think that turned out pretty well for Hitch.

I don't have a problem with sequels or even the occasional remake so long as they're good and creative, and not just simply rehashing what's been done before. There's been plenty that fit that criteria.

Rotting Corpse

In the original post I mentioned Poltergeist II but that can change after I see the films again, been so many years. I remember liking both of the first two equally as a kid and liking the second a little more than the first but that can change when I eventually see them again as part of my Halloween viewing this coming Horror season. I agree with the general consensus of the original three that the third is easily the weakest link, though it has it's merits.

Rotting Corpse

Bringing this back with it now being October and the Halloween/Horror season in full effect.

I am a big fan of "Return of the Living Dead".  It is such a fun mixture of horror and humor.

Love the scenes between the warehouse manager and his assistant and the great makeup effects on Tar Man.

A lovely choice for a Halloween screening - even though it has nothing to do with the holiday.

One of my favorites! The zombies in that one are just amazing, in terms of visuals and design. In a making-of doc it was said they were inspired by the old EC comics style, and it shows big time. Honestly that's my favorite kind of zombie. Too often nowadays zombies just don't seem fun like they used to. Return of the Living Dead is a fantastic antidote for that!

Rotting Corpse

ROTLD definitely has that EC feel to it. Which for me is a big part of why it's so awesome. It has the feel and even visual flare of an EC Horror comic.

Which is really interesting because it's also quintessentially 80s at the same time. It's a fascinating stylistic marriage but dang does it work!
