I was surprised to find this artwork in a 1974 Monsters of the Movies magazine.    It looks just like the Ray Ferry Artwork for Frankenstein Binder.

I thought the Ray Ferry Binders Art was original to him.      Where did this illustration (B & W) originally come from?    And does that mean all the Ferry Binders are old art?

The WM is swiped from the Aurora box. The other are swiped from the SPP wallets.

WOW.   I never realized that was the box art for the tall long box.     I always thought in my mind the tall box art was more like the 65 FM fearbook.

you mentioned the wallets, I have some of the Ferry Wallets (shame on me), that art was shared for the binders but was if lifted from somewhere else?   Or was that painted for Ray Ferry during his reign?

The Frankenstein and Wolf Man binders were lifted from the Aurora boxes. The other Ferry binders were lifted from the 1960s Standard Plastics Products (SPP) wallets. They were all repainted, but very much copied from those sources.

Nothing Ray Ferry did was original! ;D

Yeah, RF made a career of appropriating other people's work. That character still owes me the money for a years subscription to his version of FM that he never delivered on during the legal dispute. And, he pals around with the nicest people. Anybody remember Teachbug?  ::)

I agree, he ripped off the poses from the boxes and wallets but it looks like they were painted for his rip-offed products.   So he must have hired artists to work for his publication.     and then never paid them. lol.

I am ashamed to say I have all his Binders and some of his wallets.

but I bought them not knowing what a low life slime ball he was.   it wasn't until later, I think here, that I began to notice comments and people would spit on the sidewalk after mentioning his name.

Here's the art Ferry used for his chintzy wallets. I got this untrimmed sheet at a Swap Meet years ago. It turns out that Ferry had a lot of stuff in storage and didn't pay the bill, so the locker was auctioned off.
You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred.

Ferry might be a dirt bag, but I would love to have all those wallets, the art work is amazing.      except for creature.  what the hell, botox gone bad,  no more watching the Kardashians.

sheesh.

The original Aurora Frankenstein model kit is probably the most iconic monster toy of them all! Have you not read through this thread?

The SPP monster wallets have an iconic status in monsterdom that is arguably below only the Aurora monster model kits! They've been the subject of much discussion on this board. Have you never seen these threads?

nope, never saw those threads.   And i have the long box frankenstein right on my dresser, displayed and yet I didn't recognize the art when I saw it on the black and white ad OR the Ferry binder.

thanks for the links, I will check them out when I have some leisure time.

right now I am thumbing thru old issues of FM looking for the Elwar buttons.

He barely qualified as an artist imo. The covers for FM when he was in charge were of poor quality to say the least.
