OK, since this thread was started...

Are there any really good horror/sci-fi pictures that use Thanksgiving as a central theme or backdrop?

I can't think of any right off the bat.  Lots of Halloween and Christmas slashers and the wrap-around story for "The Time Machine" is New Year's - but nothing for Thanksgiving comes to mind.

Wish I had a list of appropriate movies for this holiday.

Anyone...?
Blood Freak (1972) featured a biker who gets turned into a giant turkey monster. Low budget shlock.

Thanksgiving just doesn't lend itself to the whole horror/monster thing.
ALWAYS MONSTERING...

Maybe someone could do a film about an urban family traveling to have Thanksgiving with rural relatives - only to be waylaid by a clan of inbred hillbilly cannibals with their own ideas about the holiday...

Eli Roth did do a great fake trailer for a Thanksgiving horror film on Tarantino's "Grindhouse" double feature. I would love to see that made into a full length feature.

You KNOW I remember the Channel 9 tradition and I  DO honor it every year (although I usually skip Mighty Joe Young), I watched Kong, Son of Kong and King Kong vs. Godzilla. All I needed were constant Playworld commercials with some kind of game (I seem to remember it was like a word search/crossword puzzle game) being played during the breaks to make it all complete.

I sometimes do King Kong vs Godzilla, as a tradition. Probably not this year though.
I think it was last year that Svengoolie actually played that movie the week before Thanksgiving. (I wonder if that was an intentional reference to the King Kong and Godzilla Thanksgiving marathons of New York).

Quote from: Monsters For Sale on November 26, 2015, 11:03:56 AMI don't associate Kong with Thanksgiving at all.

That association seems strange to me as well. It must be a New York thing arising from a local TV channel's programming traditions.

Quote from: Monsters For Sale on November 26, 2015, 11:03:56 AMI was a typical rug rat, on the floor in front of the TV watching 30's movies of all kinds - Until I got old enough to go to the local theater's Saturday Kids' Matinee.

Not I. We didn't even get a TV until I was nine in 1961 and then we only received one channel until I was in tenth grade. I simply wasn't much of a TV watching kid.

But I loved the 20 cent Saturday afternoon kids' matinees at our neighbourhood Hyland Theater!

Danni's Hard Drive showed a festive holiday extravaganza called Spanksgiving with several sequels a few years back.  ;)

OOps! Wrong genre.

Sure sounds like the right genre to me!

Wizard of Oz was the most frequently shown Thanksgiving  night movie when I was growing up in the Seattle area ( 1960s).

It was the same in the Los Angeles broadcast area.

There would be the Macy's Parade in the morning. The BIG meal.  Then turkey sandwiches while watching Judy Garland skipping along with her three friends.
