I saw this one back in 1958 when it was new and I was11 years old.  It might seem hokey now, but back then when the Jell-O squirted out of the projection windows on the screen, every small head attending the theater's Saturday Kid's Matinee turned around to look behind them.

I've always loved this film. When I first saw it on tv (around 1968 I think), I had no idea it was filmed at locations that were within an hour of where I lived. Later, I found out through the internet that the Colonial Theater was still in operation in Phoenixville and learned of the early BlobFests. I started taking my kids there around 2003 and we went every year up until Covid. We always looked forward to it and saw many classic films there.

And yes, people still turn around to look up at the projection booth when that scene comes on. It's also very surreal to see the Colonial Theater on the screen at the Colonial. Everyone always cheers!
