In typical GHOUL  fashion, this Topstone classic returned
from the dead twice in recent times. There's no longer any need
to try hunting down an original. The quest alone could kill you!

Its first encore occurred when the urethane master was found at the old
Topstone building twenty-some years ago. Topstone resurrectionists
quickly moved in for the save and today it's possible to find fresh new
castings of the vintage version >

I scored one in 2004, thickly cast and painted with far more care
than the mass-produced originals ever got >

The GHOUL's second reissue commenced via Don Post Studios
which then owned merchandising rights to Topstone characters.
Despite a sculptural rework and name change, there's no mistaking
the GHOUL  of olde. Can you imagine him graduating from
medical school?

I scored a copy from a customized edition at DonCon in 2015,
now thrice-removed off the original but rather more kindred
in GHOULish green >

You all know the story: urethane masters on Topstone's
iconic characters were found in a crawlspace at their
vacant former building. Among those saved was the most
iconic of all, The SHOCK MONSTER.  It eventually
ended up with VXXFX. After a lot of persuasion on our
part, a collector's edition was offered. I was fortunate
enough to score a copy in April 2009 >

The Deluxe SHOCK  was a limited certified edition. Its
success prompted renewed interest in Topstone masks among
collectors and spawned a host of replicas along the way.
These are my favorites >

All of those faces are similar to how I look after reviewing contracts all day.

Other characters may be good for a cheap shock but nothing
creeps us out longterm like the Topstone MUMMY  >

How do you suppose he'd fare in a head-to-head
against FRANK N STEIN?

It'd be too scary to watch. The loser might
end up looking like this  >

Maybe I'll just lurk near the ladies' lounge instead ...

... and try to wangle a date with the original goth girl  >

Then again ... at my age, I'd probably have better luck with her  >

The Mummy from Assignment Terror (1970) resembles the Topstone Mummy imo.

I wonder if there was some inspiration involved there.
ALWAYS MONSTERING...

I always wanted to get the Shock Monster, but never saw it anywhere except in old issues of Famous Monsters.  I did get the Skull mask at the local Drug Fair store at Halloween time, and I loved it.  Sure would like to have one today.
