In The Devil Bat, Lugosi shakes hands with a guy who just rubbed the  lotion on his own neck (driving the Devil Bat to maul him on his neck)-----question... Why didn't the Devil Bat attack Bela's hand?  Lugosi was careful to throw out his jacket after it was "contaminated".  This was a great, low budget flick, IMO.

Mike...In 3-D!

I set aside every Sunday evening for me throughout the year (unless something comes up) to catch up on horror movies (some new, some old favorites). I wish I could do one a day in October but it hasn't worked out for me in the past. Tomorrow I have The Editor, Dr. Giggles and Elvira's Movie Macabre (2010): Don't Look in the Basement.

I hear you, Mike.  Full disclosure... I cheat.  If I can't watch a movie 1 day, I'll do a Double-Feature the next day.  I guess what I REALLY wind up doing is watching 31 movies in October-----but I try REAL hard to do at least 1 per day.  Your TRIPLE-Feature tomorrow would cover you for the weekend, in my book!! ;D. Keep telling us what you are viewing throughout the month!

We used to view Cheesy Horror double-features every Sunday Night.  We'd order Chinese take-out and watch and review the bad films.  We wrote reviews to about 150 movies.  We called it a "Cheezer Chinese-er Double Feature". One night, Dr. Giggles got rented.  I won't spoil the ending for you.

Wow, Mike----you're out of the gate in style.  2 gems!!

Sean

October 1st:  Son of Frankenstein (1939)
October 2nd:  The Devil Bat (1940)
October 3rd:  Abbott & Costello Meet Frankenstein (1948)
October 4th:  Night Monster (1942)

I never saw Night Monster before.  Let me say that I was pleasantly surprised and most entertained.  It is a mysterious, spooky movie with plenty of atmosphere:  a manor home, foggy nights, shadows... Kind of a creepy whodunit.  With Bela Lugosi as a snobby butler----which made me sad :(. The role was so beneath Bela.  I had no idea Bela was in this-----but now my 1st 4 movies all have Lugosi in them!!

It's a fun "B". Do you have that 5 movie set? I'm sure I'll end up watching at least one flick from it, this month.

What the deuce!  It's another Lugosi picture...  Not on purpose, folks... honest.  5 Lugosi movies.  He's been a grave robber, a mad scientist, Dracula, a snobby butler and the Frankenstein monster.  I always disliked Bela as the monster.  Aside from the confusing 'is he mute?' situation, the monster is selectively vision impaired.  He looks silly stomping around with those flailing, uber stiff arms----as if he sees nothing... then he definitively points to a door when Talbot asks him where something is and looks over Talbot's shoulder as Talbot is looking something over.  Just HOW blind is he???  And Bela has the wrong face-shape for the makeup.  And for some reason, the head shape on Bela's monster is angled in the back like the Arizona Cardinal's logo.  It's not all bad, though.  The look Lugosi gives when he's being charged to full power is pure evil.  And the fight scenes are pretty good.  The athletic, leaping Wolfman VS the stiff, brute power of the monster.  2 classic fighting styles, so different from each other.  The monster stand-in looked good in the costume, too.  I liked how everybody completely disrespected Maleva by gratuitously referring to her as a witch right in front of her or when directly addressing her.  Scatter will yell at me if he reads this----but if the wind was right and I downed a 12-pak, I might just try to make an honest woman out of Maleva.  :o. I always liked the village mobs in these movies.  ALWAYS colorful characters.  And the opening scene at the Talbot Family Crypt is among the best, IMO, of all of the Universal Monster movie scenes.
