>what is the general perception of UMA over at the CHFB? ... I was just wondering if that bit of venom from Newsom towards DD is indicative of a pervading attitude toward monster toy collecting (and UMA), or just an unusual flash of rudeness.<

I've never seen that attitude, no. As you say, toys ARE discussed there; and many folks there (like me!) love them. As far as Ted, I don't recall the conflict you mention well. But he's a smart, decent guy, and his feelings may be because he actually works in show biz a bit, and may not like creators/owners to loose money on such "grey market" things?

>I was wondering why so many of the so called "top-flight Monsterkids" choose CHFB as the in place over UMA.<

I think we're talking apples and oranges. When a big toy question comes up there, I've often referred folks here - because this place is THE place in that niche.

But the rightful place of the CHFB?

When real working folks in the biz have posted there (Rick Baker - Don Glut - Tom Weaver - Ted Newsom - David Skal - Bill Warren - etc.), the facts speak for themselves. As does the case that genuine genre mysteries such as Karloff's "other" time in the Monster makeup, and Lugosi's audible dialogue in FMTW, were solved there.

P.S. - And I say this as a member who spends very little time there right now, because as I wrote above, trollishness is too lightly handled at the CHFB. But the facts are the facts.

Thanks for the info, Craig.

Makes sense that genre pros would frequent one site for reasons of practicality, and CHFB has become that site.

Like you, I'll stick to UMA for the most part. It just seems more friendly here.  :)
