Haunted hearse

I've only seen this place on Facebook, but if I ever get to Indiana, I'm going to have to check this out.

It reminds me of the Moomin House of some reason, haha!

Oh well, it still seems like a nice visit.

I'm not sure if the tower is original to the house.  If it is, I love the original architecture of the house.  That being said, I hate the paint job and the shutters.  I know what they are going for, but I'd much rather preserve the original integrity of the structure, which is haunting enough.

If you look on the site, the tower isn't original.  I do give them credit for using siding and detail that goes with the rest of the house, when they added the tower, in such a way that most people looking at it would think it original. I'm alright with changes to older homes, if they are respectful to the original buildings architectural.  In the case of my own home, although it was built back in 1893, I pointed out to the local historical society, where the whole second floor got a major rebuild circa 1920, and the Dormer windows, staircase, upstairs bath, and five bedrooms seem to be from after the first World war.  However, the remodeling appears to be  colonial revival, so they are reminiscent of homes from before the civil war, which means the home still maintains an old fashioned air, even with the later improvements.

Thanks for the clarification, HH.  I now see the photo without the tower on the FB page.  I did not think it was original to the house when I first looked at the pictures, so I appreciate it as an addition.  Since the tower was added later, I am perfectly fine with the changes they have made.  haha  The original house is nothing much to speak of, unlike yours, which is truly charming and a bit haunting too.  ;)

Thanks it is ugly but amazing to live in..I am the owner of this home.
The tower is not original and is in the process of being renovated. The colors clash.I don' t like the orange and it is getting new siding, more gargoyles and property updates. It is 3900 sq ft and was built in 1876. The tower is the only part that was added.

Welcome new blood!

Ugly is in the eye of the beholder.  I think your house is cool - and looks even better in B&W.

Be sure to post pictures of your place at Halloween.  We'd like to see your decorations.

(What's the inside look like?)

I actually like very much the way the house looks now, although I think the balcony would look better, if it had balustrades like the porch railings. It reminds me of the house from Beetlejuice.

Oh yeah.  That would look better.  It would make the tower look more like it was original and not an afterthought - though old buildings were often added to and modified over the years.

RavenMortician,

I'm the Senior Editor of Louisville Halloween (www.louisvillehalloween.com) where I write a column as The Phantom of the Ville. We'd love to write an article about your purple haunted mansion sometime. If not before this Halloween (our schedule is wracking up as we speak!), then certainly at some point this year. Would you be interested in such a thing?
