I was looking over Junior's filmography on IMBD and he'd been in 66 films before 1941's starring role as Lawrence Talbot, then putting on those Monster books in this GHOST OF.

That's a great still, isn't it?

He'd been doing Henchman roles for a while - in Westerns, Crime Dramas, SECRET AGENT X-9, some sea adventures, even Charlie Chan and Mr Moto entries. And of course his pretty great performance in OF MICE AND MEN with Burgess Meredith (in that stunning year, 1939 - what an incredible year for movie-going).

I felt rather sorry for the SON OF and GHOST OF audiences - and the stars - because Karloff's great turn in BRIDE made the Monster so much 'more' and none of the other scripts allowed for such a humanizing version until decades later. And maybe not even then (1992's Randy Quaid version is a favorite, and DeNiro's insertion was... well, interesting... but hasn't achieved many rewatchings).
