Waaaay before my time and, by my time, the ability to locate such comics was more akin to mass awareness of Hoffa's fate.  (Could these fates be actually linked together?!!  Hmmm).  But I don't know Kubert at all.  Thanks for intro'ing me to him.  That last pix, the blue-faced ENEMY ACE, has some SERIOUS pencil shadings going on.  Remarkable.  I wonder if the inker did that after inking it, or if the artist did that originally?

OH MY.  Joe Kubert.  TARZAN!  Oh my - I do know him and I used his artwork as an advancement from Ditko into a better linear style.  THE Tarzan artist that I grew up with!  Du-uh... I just saw "war story" and "Kubert" and didn't think beyond that.

Wow... I need to go back and recheck all of these artist names.

Joe Kubert typically inked his own pencils. That's certainly so on that Enemy Ace cover.

Yes. "Oh my!" is correct when it comes to Joe Kubert. Here are scans of ten more of my favourite Joe Kubert covers from my collection:

Hep, thanks for those great comics-covers.  Kubert's linearity has such a flow to it that it conveys action, and was (IS) a wonderful style in the fashion art I use - linear human form, draped clothing or breezy waftings.   That's what I noticed, when I was a child.  It's still a remarkable style.

Memph's stills are wonderful.  That Lee-as-Dracula makes me fear that Nicolas Cage is going to see his resemblance in there and feel compelled for some remake.  Please, Nic, just do your own Dracula - if you think you can be better than Lee, much less more iconic than Lugosi (no, Nic - you never will be THAT).

Then, there's Lee as The Mummy.  The glories of the push-up bra are fully denied when there's the Explode-Out Breast Implants, I suppose...  Holy Safety Pin, Batman...

The Curse Of The Werewolf's nose condom looks more like an avalanche sliding down, but the overall look seems to answer the ages-old question, "What would a child look like if Cyndi Lauper and Lady Gag had a son?"  So much for transgenderized breeding!

And Herbert Lom's 1962 Phantom is a favorite - brutal to his enemies, and still a harsh taskmaster to his protegĂ©.  AND GADGETS, too!  Holy 007!  This one doesn't extend itself like Chaney's original - sadly.

THE GORGON's got one of the most perfect Stills.

And then THE REPTILE, which allows me to finally able to study her jumpsuit's material.  How interesting.  Embedded psychedelia!  I still can't quite figure out exactly where the Eye Holes (slits, probably) are in that Reptile Face makeup.  The Reptile eyes are on the eyebrows, so I assume there was some kind of vision slot or fabric under them, stretched taut to the cheek.  "Am I biting her neck, or is this a lamp I've stumbled into again?"

Neal generates such great, evocative work.  For cover-art, though, I'll still give the nod to Kirby whose bombastic, full-impact covers may have actually been more Inker-based than Kirby's.  I can't tell if indeed there is any need to distinguish between the two processes.

Still, those first few years of Creepy-Eerie covers are my favorites for an evocative, provocative series.  I can't imagine passing those up had they been available when I was growing up.

Most of us did not. Here's a scan of another one of those great Frazetta Creepy covers:
